Dunstable! I could pop in on my lunch break! Probably the only good thing I can think of in Dunstable actually (apart from the Wetherspoons... Like our Friday lunches in there!

Sat nav in the crappy Peugeot I had when used to be there quite often didn't even know half the roads exsited around that area, was fun trying to find anything so maybe that was trying to tell you something

Probably the only good thing I can think of in Dunstable actually (apart from the Wetherspoons... Like our Friday lunches in there!

I often used to go to Wetherspoons for breakfast after a night out away from home. But had a Lasagna there the other day, next day it rained brown water!

Many of us know what it's like, you have this dream and it doesn't always go quite to plan. I respect the dedication to the hobby and genuinely hope his dream works out where he has them all at home, sure anyone would sooner that than paying money out for rent, gives you something to aim for, though I'm slowly loosing pace with my goals, just can't get as motivated as much as I used to

We could do with an Arcade SOS TV Show, they get loads of people to come round and build your games room

though I don't think the public would embrace it like other SOS shows

I only wondered if it wasn't someone here as personally I would sooner post here what my plan was and I'm working towards it rather than an article on website like this so they can get some free publicity, hope they gave at least a month free rent

It is sad to see all these quality machines just sitting around in storage but on the note of still building the room: it's a tricky one. I know as someone who wants to start building an arcade hardware collection but doesn't have the room ready yet, I've had to just keep an eye around these places to get an idea for process and price, but not buy even if the opportunity has arisen for something I might want.

In this line of collecting I guess you have to just jump because these classics don't just pop up for sale every day.

It's a tough one

If I hadn't bought mine when I did, I would not get most of them now at any price, still can't believe some of the ones that came up for sale, they would of been sold to someone else that will never sell, could of mamed it or scrapped it or if they hadn't sold just got scrapped and If I tried to buy most now It would cost me a fortune to buy them, so you can't win unless you had the space and money back then

If many werent bought years back, if they weren't saved by people like us, probably half of those machines would of been scrapped or parted out if they didn't sell. It's tough when you have something Arcade size and you need it gone but no one buys it, loads ended up scrapped at that time so at least they have been saved, how I look at it anyway as I've seen the prices so low when no one buying Outrun and they got parted out because worth more in parts so if they were parted out imagine how less popular games ended up

That's what got me into the mess, machines you never thought you would see and just had to buy them even though I hadn't got the room. If it came to buying a new Washing machine, TV etc I would be looking for cheap deal, usually just get stuff and repair it but I'd be thinking I'm not paying £300 for one, OutRun Dlx comes up and I can't get my £1000 out bank quick enough

when it's something you might not get chance to buy again your mindset changes completely

Just wish we could help each other get to the point we aim for as it's not always easy to do

So I would look at it that these machines were saved rather than scrapped or mamed, hopefully when Paul's dream is realised he will have some meets so others can enjoy them with him which I'm sure is his plan

I've got no beef with people storing large amounts of cabs (I don't like the term 'hoarding').

As said, they might've needed saving, they were likely bought before things dried up and retro-inflation hit and who's to say they don't love every game they've collected, just because they haven't had the opportunity to fill a games room full of them and get each one looking pristine. I can imagine it'd be painful to sell on a game (you'll never get another of) to see it being used for 3 months and then flipped or broken for parts cos it doesn't sell at a profit.

It's a luxury hobby, not sharing food rations.

If I hadn’t grabbed most of the stuff I have, it would have been burnt and buried in a field, no exaggeration.
I hate that it all sits there, but I am actually doing something about it, time is my biggest issue. My games room is almost there and I’m sorting through my stuff to sell it. I would never be able to buy all that stuff now, with prices as they are. I think you’ll find most people with loads of stuff have bought at the right time and now have no time to sort it. Blood sweat and tears went into moving all those games about multiple times. The stress I’ve had with the wife had me thinking I may as well just burn it all.
It’s easy to judge someone with a sh*t load of stuff but it’s really up to them what they do. Moving 80 games around and storing them is no joke.

Between 1994 and 2009 I mainly had one machine which followed me all around the country when I moved with work. From 2009 onwards I've had some form of workshop or industrial unit on a monthly licence that I can park stuff in and work on it, and also PLAY the games, as well as having people visit. The collection is up to twenty machines and rising now, and all of those machines were faulty when purchased and needed repair.

Seeing stuff just sitting there in storage does make me wish I would have had the same opportunity to buy those very machines and bring them back into public use. I cannot understand why people use these storage places for long periods though, they are not exactly cheap.

I do also wish people would negotiate with each other a little more, to get machines out into use rather than laying around doing nothing. I've loaned machines out in the past, I've got two machines recently lent to me by my old arcade boss, and I've cleaned them up and repaired them, so he doesn't have the hassle of storage and now they're going to see some action after ten years of downtime.

In the meantime, I might be opening an arcade soon..

I don’t think anyone needs 80 cabs all at once
But they are theirs to do as they please with
If they are planning on building a games room to hold the lot ,it would be epic
I’m slowly losing the appeal of keeping a pile of cabs working
Anyone that comes to my place are more impressed with a cab with a pi and all the games running on it ,than big monster cabs with one game .
Now that there’s arcade clubs and other retro arcades ,there’s no real need anymore to crave say a space hairier deluxe or the likes ,you can go and get your fix there ,where it’s maintained and for everyone to use
Having 80 cabs is just a major headache ,stress ,and bottomless pit of money to maintain
Unless they are being used ,they have just went from one warehouse storage to another
Great that they were saved ,not so great if they just sitting about doing nothing
No one has 80 favourite games
