Pages sometimes taking ages to display

I don't know if this is connected to the recent troubles but I have noticed that the forum is sometimes taking ages to load.

I have also had the 'page cannot be displayed' error come up many times, especially on the forum home page, after about 30 seconds or so. Usually the page will load if I refresh it but not always.

It happens on most sub-sections as well when I first open them and if I go back later they load instantly.

I have not made any changes on my PC and I never had this problem before the site went down.

As we moved to a new platform and new provider we did have links pointing to the previous server and timepouts set t 45 - 60 seconds causing problems - now we're "over" and stable on our new provider I'd hope the problem has gone away - please - reply if it is still an issue!!!!

I have just had a look through some of the various sections and all pages loaded quickly and I was just about to say that things seem to be okay. However, I then refreshed the forum home page and after 2 minutes it was still blank. I had to stop and re-refresh for it to display at all.

Edit: This post took a while to show but the page refreshed instantly. It seems to be only the home page that is lagging now.

I've battered this for the last half hour and can't see any issues. Is anyone else noticing a lag getting to the home page? We'll try and get a squint at the logs to see if theres anything untoward happening...

Maybe it's an IE issue.

Yes, I still use it as there is no single, fully configureable alternative for how I have to view the internet...

It's not the 'high score' hit counter is it? That never lads for me but it also doesn't hold things up.

We should probably clarify 'the home page' though

Garry, are we talking about the forum home page: http://www.ukvac.com/new/forum/forums.html

Or the site home page: http://www.ukvac.com

?

It's the forum home page, I have tried the main home page and there were no problems with that. I have just had the same problem again with the Arcade - General and Tech, Maintenance & Repairs pages.

This time rather than wait for a time out I closed and re-opened the pages and they then loaded instantly.

Update: I've just tried to open the Tech page again and even closing and re-opening didn't work, I had to wait until it was ready.

P.S. Where is the hit counter?

I can't see it anywhere.

Ignore my comment about the hit counter - it's on the main site home page so not relevant to this, it's why I figured we ought to clarify though as I thought it may have been that going it...

I can only think this has to be some form of DNS / caching issue. Do you know if you're using a proxy at all? Can you go into 'Tools / Internet Options', 'Connections', 'LAN Settings' and make sure that 'Automatically detect settings' is NOT ticked and see if that helps please? (All from within IE).

Just popping out for a few hours so won't be able to respond straight away.

Martin.

It was ticked but now is not.

I restarted IE and it looked like it was going to be the answer as all the pages were loading instantly.

However, I have now tried all the forum sections and almost half were reluctant to display.

I notice that you are using an updated version of Web Wiz compared to J+.

Software: Web Wiz Forums(TM) ver. 10.11 as opposed to;

Software: Web Wiz Forums(TM) ver. 9.70

I don't suppose there is anything different between the two versions that would cause issues with my IE settings, is there?

I do have all add-ons disabled by default but this does not cause problems with any other sites.

Hmm, quite surprising as the auto detect setting often helps

Leave it with us for the minute and we'll look into it. Seconded though, knowing the ISP may give us some clues as well. Obviously yes, there's a bunch of stuff different between the newer version of WebWiz, but we'll have to check and see if there's anything that could be causing this.

I have tried personally IE9 on the ukvac web domain with accessibility -> ignore colours enabled : yes a few rendering issues not reported, but nothing major and cdertainly no lag issue.

I can say categorically that the version of webwiz should not be an issue - perhaps you can help us by installing a low impact browser like Google chrome and trying the domain from there? - I think we'll find that will prove if its a browser or server issue...
