Painting a cab

So after doing some research no one seems to know how zacc cabs were originally painted. But the no undercoat and being painted straight on to wood followed by a clear gloss theory sounds wrong. I'm going to sand, prime, then I'll go in hard with foam rollers with a colour matched semi gloss. Thanks for all your opinions, it seems it's very much a preference and there's no right or wrong answer.

Word from the wise, if you are going the roller route buy the Foam - High Density mini rollers.... they last longer if the solvent is destroying the foam. Enamel and 2K WILL melt the foam until it goes to mush and within 10 minutes too!!

I need to ask a couple more things, please. The painting has been delayed due to relocating but, I'll have a few weeks before I start my new job to get things moving. The questions....should I place the cab on it's side or back? At the same time I'll be treating and filling some wood on the base. And lastly, what's the best way to tackle the areas that are black where t-mold runs around? Should I give them a new coat of paint or leave them as they are? I'm a bit concerned paint merging where I do the sides and front. Perhaps do the sides first or use some blue painter's tape to stop it from spreading?

Thanks
