For what it's worth, I love to see my machines being played, you can still see the joy of folks faces as they are getting stuck into a game... brilliant

Yes, and Mrs RGP wants to know who by still!

You're right that back in the day, these machines were designed to take a 10-12 hour public beating on a 7-day basis but two things were also true back then: They were designed with a relatively low shelf life in mind - not 30+ years and spare parts were abundant at the time.

I'm never bothered about the electronics side, I can fix or get that fixed - that's just part of the cycle of that era, fix it so that it can fail again later.

And putting it bluntly, the electronics are pretty well cocooned inside the machine, monitor tubes protected by glass to take the brunt of any initial impact, PCB's in the bowels somewhere.

My Goliath with Nemesis at last years PlayExpo got slammed about by 2 total t**sers. Slapping the stick hard when they lost a life. I'd purposefully changed out a lot of the good sticks for some more generic and cheaper ones though so although I did not to security to get them to have a word and they moved on pretty sharpish I wasn't that bothered. Joysticks are going to break, buttons are going to get sticky and weak on the springs. I had a box of about 50 buttons and leafs in the road trunk.

Someone had been bashing the buttons so hard on Track & Field that the leaf had worked loose underneath and dropped into the lower area of the CP, I remember tightening the buttons up as well but hey, it's going to happen.

It doesn't put me off taking 40-50 and more machines to Revival/NERG and anything else next year, I specifically built a collection of all the games I love but with the intention of letting everyone else play, the more the merrier.

And, with the lair having 2600sqft in total now and everything getting more streamlined, i'll be opening it up on a much more regular basis.

Ian,

That absolutely nails it there in one sentence

I bought my Pac Man cabaret in 2008 from eBay.

Drove outside London with my mate in a van and picked up a bucket of crap which was falling to bits on the way home.

I could see it in the rear view mirror on the way home and thought I just can't wait to see the looks on peoples faces, young & old, loving these iconic cabs all over again.

I've been there, lived it in the 80's, the sounds and the smells of the electronics with the gameplay and sounds.

Same with all my restos. I'm doing them to be enjoyed and can't wait to see them getting played by a new generation at the Expo and not kept in glass air conditioned cases

Walk/taxi/train it if it's that close mate, come and have a beer or 5 :)
Not close enough to walk. Also I'm too much of a tight bast to pay for a taxi/train

My current plan is to get someone else from Macc to go and get them a ticket for driving

Here's the full list of cabs at Play this year. There should be something for everyone. We've got games going from Space Invaders & Pac-man, right up to Planet Harriers & OutRun 2 SP.

We are all extremely excited to have an incredible Nintendo dedicated row - which I don't think you'd have even seen back in the arcade heyday, 7 stunning cabs - Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong 3, Punch Out and Super Punch Out uprights, Space Firebird and Space Fever cocktails.

We also have some rarely seen dedicated cabs, such as Taito's Ice Cold Beer, Konami's Gyruss and a Midway Pac-Land among others. 5 cockpit cabs, 5 twin driving cabs, all 3 operation wolf games, Chase HQ and the 2 follow ups all in matching cabs, a cracking line of cabaret cabs, including Phoenix, Bubble Bobble & GORF.

We'll also be having some live play on projectors from world champion gamers Jon Stoodley & Tony Temple on Pac-Man & Missile Command respectively. We will also have dbrown with his incredible mini cabs all on display and ready to play.

It's going to be an amazing weekend, you really don't want to miss it

Superb line up of arcade gaming related hardware, it will be just like the good ol' days seeing 110+ cabs all together in one place again, I will probably shed a tear or two & wish arcades would make a proper come back
