Raspberry pi4b and pi2jamma problem

Hi guys
I picked up raspberry pi4b and the pi2jamma adapter. And I connected it to my jamma supergun and im just seeing a black screen. The leds are flashing so it’s getting power. I have sd card inserted loaded from arcade punks

Have you tried the Pi4 just connected via HDMI to your TV first?

Just ordered a mini HDMI cable from eBay. Should arrive tomorrow. Will test the board on its own tomorrow and post

Ok guys just received my micro hdmi cable and plugged into my tv and am still seeing black screen. Tried both hdmi ports on pi4

I reformatted my sd card and rewrote the image with the recommended software Connected to my tv via hdmi and I saw the Batocera splash screen for a second and then tv said no signal. On my CRT was black screen

I would try just a standard Pi OS loaded on the sd card from the Pi image tool to confirm the Pi itself is working OK.

Surely the pi would output video even without an sd card? It’s gotta be the pi4??

I had something similar on my Pi3 with a certain Mega Drive image on my stock Noir monitor as it was fussy with resolutions but it worked ok on my tv.

The pi's are great but can be a bit fussy.

Are you using a psu with enough amps? The pi4 and 5 draw a bit more than the earlier ones.

What SD card make is it? There are some that simply do not work. Lists of both are all over the tinterweb.

After ruling those out, as already said, just start with the basic OS written using the pi imager, on a standard modern screen.

I'd be amazed if the pi was at fault. But there's always a first, I guess.

I use a "Argon ONE Raspberry Pi 4 UK Power Supply (5.25V 3.5A 18W)" with my Pi4 as some of the newer images are default set to over clocked.

He says it does briefly display a Batocera image on screen, which is why I suggested just putting a normal image on SD to see if it keeps outputting to HDMI with a config that is set to default to the HDMI connection.

Sounds like its either booting up and switching to a video mode thats not compatible with his board/setup or its booting and then failing.

Does the pi2jamma interface not have an official OS image that can be downloaded and tried instead of using a 3rd party one from arcadepunks?

Appears it does, I would try that as well.

I would also make sure you are downloading something that is compatible with the Pi4, the downloads page seems to mention only upto Pi3 compatibility with some of the links. The FAQ on the ArcadeForge site says to use PinHP distribution for it to work on the Pi4.

Also which arcadepunks image are you using, there is a this one I found reference to but its 4 years old and donesnt say its Pi4 compatible, and pretty sure when it first came out the Pi4 had issues with 15KHz video output and standard images for the Pi3 didnt work at the time. HDMI to vga adaptor try on a vga lcd ?
Could be outputting a vga 31k

You may need to configure video settings from options once you using hdmi or vga /. Then swap video to rgb sync

likely its sounds like OP isnt using an OS/setup that is compatible with the pi2jamma on a Pi4 as it was designed originally for the Pi3, they just needs to use the correct version that works with the Pi4/Pi2Jamma combination.

Arcade punks say image is for pi4 and pi3. I’m currently downloading a batocera lightgun image from arcade punks. Will test tomorrow

I have pi3 & pi4 ..

I just settled in rgb pi I think it’s a better product ..
I sold my jamma pi.
