Hi All,

I love the Atari games. Nad (Equities) posted the below picture in Nov '14 as part of the "cool arcade pix" thread under "General Arcade Discussion" but does anyone here actually own a Red Baron cabaret? I have never seen one listed anywhere?

Does anyone know how many Atari actually produced and was this less than their Dig Dug cabaret which was around 505 units?

Cheers

Mark

I'd have thought that's a custom BZ conversion, the suspicious parts are; that CPO is clearly a sticker, the marquee looks custom made too (it doesn't quite fit the space which is very un-Atari-like), and although very well done ~ the bezel artwork looks like it doesn't quite "fit" properly. So yeah, although there's a cabaret manual for Red Baron, I don't believe any were ever made?

That said, there's like a couple or so prototype versions out there (which are only slightly larger than cabaret sized) but they don't look anything like that.

edit: I've also seen a Euro/ Irish version too which is different again (and smaller).

Ah, thanks, good points I didn't notice to be honest. Yes this appears to be a "mock up" then !

Anyone else out there got views ?

Cheers

Nice little cabs aren't they, do like the Bezels on them but would be nice to know if they did a Red Baron though

Still need to get my Battlezone working, last thing I did was buy new Chip Sockets when I found some were knackered, so put it aside while waiting for them but ton of other jobs to finish now before I get back on it

Shame there aren't more of these cabs around, they would make a lovely arcade for people with limited space being able to fit so many of them in

When you think about it though, how many people have Red Baron cabs / how many have you seen for sale?

compared so Battlezone say, it's alot les Red Baron isn't it? so if the normal cabs are alot less seen, the cabaret are probably even less than those so probably why you don't see Red Baron Cabaret

Another thing, Battlezone didn't get a cool sitdown, that Cockpit one, was it Oliver selling was nice

Bit like Having a Laserdisc game in your collection, kinda nice having at least one Vector game too because there so different

Apart from once slight issue with the screen, being Vertical so would have to factor that in to build, what would be quite a cool project, is a replica Atari Cabaret machine built from scratch with a Vectrex inside and screen overlays done for all the games and Multicart

Or even a Cabaret Sized Arcade version of a Vectrex so top part is like a Vectrex with Control Panel in similar style but Stand Up cab

to fit in with the other Arcade stuff

There’s a link to some B&W photos in a huge photo gallery of arcades from America buried somewhere on here showing a Red Baron sit down. I’ll never find it though.

I’m fairly sure a member on here has an upright, I’ve seen it in the flesh (if they still have it).jonhughes2018-04-03 21:15:50

Thanks Jon,

It appears a cabaret manual was produced (as below) and sold on ebay and was discussed in the forum https://forums.arcade-museum.com in 2011. However todate a true cabaret version has not yet been found and pictures published so the mystery continues. Even Andreas at http://www.andysarcade.de is still searching for pictures of one. There is mention of a rare prototype on http://www.rotheblog.com/2008/11/arcade/rare-atari-red-baron-prototype-changes-hands/ - see the second picture below. The below production data is from Andreas at http://www.andysarcade.de.

Cabinet Types
» Red Baron Upright - June 1981 - Production: 1,500 units - price $1,995 - measures/weight?
» Red Baron Sitdown (Cockpit) - May 1981 - Production: 504 units - price $2,795 - measures/weight?
» Battlezone Cabaret - does it exist?

Either way interesting stuff...

$1995... I reckon that works out about £5,000 in today's money.

Folk are always complaining about the price of cabs these days... they are a steal compared to what they used to cost!

Never mind the Red Baron Cabaret (I would still love to have it) - What about the one off Berzerk Cabaret?

I would get rid of that flacid flopper of a joystick straight away, though...
