UPS once handed a parcel containing a new MacBook Pro to an old man walking by my house as I wasn’t in and he said he knew me. It was nearly two weeks of back and forth with ups and apple before a neighbour from up the road said he had been round his dads house , who lived a few streets away, and found a package for me (not his dads fault, he was very old and had completely forgotten about it)

DWS. Delivered without signature.
And to rub salt into the wound
The postman has signed for it himself.

WTF?
Isn’t it standerd to take the item back to depot and re arrange a delivery ?
The answer is, the postman assumes you would rather have the item than get the red card and have to go to the depot and collect the damn thing.
If he can get the item through the letterbox, he'll most likely just put an X as the signature and fuck off. That way he hasn't got to complete the red card and take the item back, you get your tchotchke and some poor sod doesn't have to try and redeliver. That's a win win win situation.
In this case, something's gone wrong.

all of my posties are absolutely top drawer, i dont know them personally but i have the odd comment to them which they always like, apologising for having so many parcels arriving at once, telling them to have a nice day, its a really underappreciated and underpaid job, simple mistakes can happen

My postie at my mums / family home legend !
Where I have moved to few probs
But I think I have a solution.

Safe place box.
Rather than signed for
I need to ask sender to choose safe place on the delivery options

It's not really a Royal-Mail only thing - I don't bother with signed-for generally.
I had someone send me an Outrun DLX drive board for repair via a courier (I forget who) and it was 'delivered' and signed for by Barry Eden.

Barry lives in the same council ward as me, apparently. I gave up after knocking on a couple of doors. The next stage was to get the police involved for a missing package, but we gave up at that point, and I decided it was a waste of money.

Yep I know ..
It’s bloody ridiculous.

When I phoned customer care Royal Mail .
The girl on the phone new where my item was through the satélite ping on the machine delivery guy uses when. He signed it himself, But obviously privacy reasons she wasn’t allowed to tell me where .. but that really is what’s up set me, I could have gone get it!
But now three weeks later nobody has spoken to me .. nothing and I can only imagine that the family that have my item have just chucked it!..

It’s such a waste

Dont you mean ' Customer Don't Actually care department ' ?? lol

They are all the same , You get good delivery drivers and bad the same as all industries now a days. None care about the items they ship its far easier to give money back than spend time tracking parcels. We have a guy who drops at work (We have cameras) he signs it him self and just throws it in the Grit bin if we don't answer the bell within 20 odd seconds. By the time we get to the door he's gone.

Dave.

Signed for may only be as good as the local delivery person. Thankfully mine is great.

Royal mail 24 / or next day before 1PM is probably the only one I would use where they take a photo of it being handed over, as a signature from a neighbour two streets away is of no use.

For a low value item I guess business would go for 2nd class signed for, and take it on the chin if they hadto re-send the occasional missing order.

Actually had a fail from UPS today, they left a parcel from abroad on the doorstep which was tracked and signed with just a knock at the door (no bell) and to make it worse I was in the house.
If it had gone missing that's the typical scenario whereby the seller would assume I was trying some sort of con, and I might assume the same!

DHL and FedEx all the way, never had those let me down (yet)

My postie told me RM are moving to ditch letter deliveries altogether, and basically just function as a package courier. Not sure how that can be done TBH, as we still need a postal service for letters etc. Probably another profit-driven company will take over that role. 🤷‍♂️ What fun...

Yep like it’s always divide compartmentalise a companies usp
And then make more profit from it by driving up costs and service quality goes down

I’m just gutted because it was a nice thing (sanwa spinner )

And odd behavior. Post man should not signing items sent using signed for method.
Item just goes back to depot, then goes out for re-delivery a day or two later,
Simples .

So to leave at wrong addrsss and he signed it himself ?
Whats that about .?
Sender did nothing wrong addrsss was all correct sender sent me a photo of package and Proof of post.

I lost a ms9 chassi at Christmas Everi driver stole complete contents of the lorry :(. I’m not have great luck
I drove to meet a vac member last week because I’m just not ready to post pcbs.
I have lost faith in Royal Mail / everi & post office.

Dhl & ups I guess next time 👍😊.

Also I think I will just say
Royal Mail said they would get back to me no longer than 14 days
14 days past - I got a token message
No mention of when they will get back in contact at all.

I would measure a service on the quality of customer care.

I’m not getting any from Royal Mail.
Haven’t a clue when I will hear from them next or what on earth is going on
With there so called investigation .

If they need to call the post master at a sorting depot can’t imagine that takes more than 5 mins,

Post master asks post man “ please can you go collect this item”

Postman brings it back for re-posting
Postmaster updates customer care of
Either positive or negative outcome.

Customer care informs me.
End.

It ain’t rocket science
