Must admit I love it when UPS turn up in there US style van, block the road in some spectacular way, jump out knock and ring until you answer and will wait 5 minutes to be sure.

It's like the squat team is arriving, you can be fairly confident nobody else is getting hold of your parcel :)

Got a Customs fee to pay, only found out by investigating where it was. Now I am witing for a letter with a Ref on it so I can pay the charge, they have had the item since last Thurs and it's now Weds, you would have thought they wanted their payment before now. Stupid system

I've had that a few times. It's tax for the government so don't think the courier care much if you pay it or not.

I understand that the Royal Mail pay the fee on your behalf and then add their fees, and now hide behind a stupid system, probably to stop the Staff being abused. Charges should be for brand new goods IMO, not second hand, especially PCBs that are no longer made and were manufactured 40 years ago or so, plus marking it as a 'Gift' means nothing if it is declared over £100/Euros.

The whole thing needs looking at and revising, just throwing more clarity on the whole situation.

Yeah, same, @kingtreelo ... I literally watched an EVRI drop a delivered NVidia Shield on the doorstep the other day ... I mean ... JFC.
out of all the delivery things i use, Royal Mail is by far the most reliable where i live, all of the post people are fantastic and friendly, they dont leave parcel in or behind bins like many other companies

... but ... all that said ... this import duty / holding thing isn't necessarily a new thing ... nor is it exclusive to RM ... I don't think ... but it's still a right fucker!

yeah, nobody wants to pay extra charges on top, i order from Japan a few times a year, i realise i am taking a hit with it and i may get stung, but i generally buy a few other things at the same time so i can make a profit and claw some of those costs back, most times making a profit as well

the likes of Analogue and that though...i only have one order from them and it will be my last

It's pretty much as above, Depends on your Postie and unfortunately they have a lot a agency workers these days who aren't all up to scratch. Mine is great and very reliable thankfully. I use Royal mail SD usually but it can be a bit pricey weight depending, Signed for not so much because it's the same as sending something 1st class but hoping the Postie will spot the label and obtain a signature. Special delivery is a whole different beast. Tracked 24 & 48 also good. I might change my mind when the asset stripping Czech takes over the company soon though. They probably won't even be delivering the post in a few years time.

Ups are good and was going to say Dpd but with the experience a friend has just had with them it's a no from me.

I don't know why Royal Mail keep moving the posties about, one that used to be at mine all time I saw last week, he got moved to other end of village, on the whole they do pretty good and I post mainly RM and PF with no issues

Just going to post something now and noticed it says Without tracking details, your funds will be available in your eBay balance on 10 Apr.

It one of those days today

Been waiting for a pipe bender to arrive from ebay, they sent the wrong one, so they sent mine to another buyer and now no others for sale

Went to post office to post item and return that and it's closed power cut

Been waiting 7 days for a small bottle of oil to arrive, seller just puts in mailing bag!?! they must have broken it so royal mail put an empty bag in a apologies bag and still deliver it

I will never understand the mindset of people that think saving money on proper packaging is worth it, especially when you can reuse packaging so it's usually free, it's not even the expensive to buy in bulk if you are selling lots.

I recently purchased a vintage item from a 'pro' retro seller worth £200 and one that could not be easily replaced.

It arrived loosely packed in a thin box with a token single layer of bubble wrap..

The seller had written "fragile please take care" on the box, as if that was going to magically protect it! (although somehow it did in this case :))

Worst thing you can do. If you haven't paid for a special service but have written a patronising request on the parcel, most posties will consider it a piss-take. I've seen these dropkicked across the sorting office.

It's like bringing your own teabag to Bob's Cafe, asking for 'just hot water and please don't spit in it'.
