Hey All,

Here's my effort at converting about 1/2 of my garage into a games room, I've spent a few weekends and some evenings getting this far, its not complete but finally I can see the light in terms of getting it finished. I've basically looked at what other people have done, made up some parts and ended up with the following:

The Garage - Joined to next doors garage and made of single brick, extended at the back by the previous home owner.



Making some space



Out with the old window



In with the new double glazed window



Stud framework all the way round



25mm Celotex insulation in the floor



Chipboard floor in place



100mm Celotex in the ceiling space



50mm Insulation in the wall space



Plasterboard on walls and ceiling



Plasterboard up other view



Hopefully i'll be done in about a month, i will update the thread as I make more progress.

Very nice. Pretty much how I intend to convert my garage.

The only thing I would do different is install Polystyrene in the ceiling, but have a gap, at the top for air flow.

So, something like 75mm polystyrene blocks in a 90mm space

This is what I hope to do in the house my girlfriend and I are looking for.

She's already said I can have the garage as a games room!

Obviously, I'm now looking for a house with a double garage.

Only one thing, you really should stagger the joints in the flooring as it spreads the weakness of the chipboard edges

Coming soon Vic. I did get the BZ working, I think it was replacing all the sockets on the mathbox chips that got it sorted. I had about a weeks worth of play before starting work. Hopefully it'll fire up when it get re-housed. Asteroids needs a board repair and the MC works but the monitor needs attention.

There is acutally an air gap all the way round walls and ceiling and i have two vents on the outside bricks to allow the air to circulate. As for my shopping list; Wickes for the stud timber/plasterboard/chipboard floor, Ebay for the Celotex/Kingspan that was eay cheaper tham the shops!

Ha ha, I came to the same conclusion after I had layed it all down! Oh well its not coming back up now. As it is all the joins in the chipboard are interlocking with the tounge & grooves. If it gives me problems i'll stick some hadrboard over the top of it all, hopefully not though.

Had a busy few nights this week, the paint is on, sockets are in and skirting is on.



I've painted the skirting board tonight and will be putting carpet tiles down tomorrow night all being well. More updates over the weekend...

Alright everyone, here's some new photos of my work:

Painting Finisted & Carpet down





Cabs thrown in along with lots of other odds and sods. Missile command on soak test.





I now plan on getting ALL the atari hardware refurbed, Big Blues, ARII rebuilds and monitor Cap kits all round. Along with a couple of board fixes to have a go with. This hobby's a never ending circle... I have to get these games up and running before buying any more projects!

I've done the same as you. Built a wooden frame on the concrete floor, put Celotex insulation in, and then chipboard flooring over the top. My concern is, will this be ok with the weight? How do you find this?

Will be fine. The floor in my purpose built shed is no different and I've had no issues to date. To be honest, I don't remember as I didn't do it, builders did, but I've got a feeling mine may even be concrete, celotex, then chipboard. Not convinced I've even got a wooden frame. Celotex is strong stuff!! I'm sure I remember that conversation with the builders and indeed checking out the load specs of the stuff...

The floor has been fine. As is, no movement creaking or flexing that I've noticed. I did think about putting a layer of ply or similar our the top to spread the load a bit more, but that would have just taken away from my ceiling height which is already quite limited.

I have the same problem. Another layer of ply equals ceiling height issues

i've done this in my garage - I have about 40 cabs on it, seems ok so far.

Should be plenty warn in there in the winter from the heat of the cabs alone!!!

I added some additional struts across the battens of one section in my garage tonight, and the floor is now super solid

Would highly recommend it if you have some seriously heavy stuff

Only worry with chipboard flooring is if you get a cab with missing legs and just the bolt ends, enormous weight is placed on these bolt ends and they *may* sink into the flooring. I have a Tempest with this problem.

So check those legs
