Job List
- Discharge tube and remove chassis
- Sort out sized screws on control panel
- separate base plate from main body
- remove internal metalwork.
Working any cab like this is fun, although this U4 is a cruel mistress as everything reveals another problem. Not only were there no keys, some idiot has jammed a screwdriver into the front door to force it open bending both the door and the body of the cab.. Possibly the same idiot has tried to force the control panel as well, bending the locking tang (the other one is missing). Anyway enough complaining..
TOEI Chassis:
With some trepidation I managed to discharge the tube properly, removing the chassis was no problem. I had a quick chat with Grant, i'll wrap it up and send it and the PSU for service. I have a spare chassis, but it would be great if this can be repaired.. 😬

Control panel.
Next job was to sort out the shelf that the control panel sits on. Over the weekend I couldn't get any of the screws to budge so I let them soak in WD-40 overnight, came back yesterday and ... they still wouldn't move 😥 No problem, one of the lessons I learnt from my Lindbergh was to invest in a decent pair of gripping pliers - so I could get the screws moving and finally the control panel relented.

I also removed all of the screws holding the base to the body, which was exhausting as about 50% them needed to be turned out with the pliers.

Lastly I my son and I did some refurb work on the coins we found. With a combination of lemon juice, baking powder and a lot of scrubbing they came out pretty well.

Lucky for me he's a top dude, and was more than happy to help.. so I gave the U4 a good blast which got rid of at least some of the caked on crap.

Lovely father son project and will be a memory for you both - may even make an arcade collector out of him one day.

Anyway, spent a couple of hours today removing the foot rest and the adhesive underneath and scrubbing the whole cabinet down.
I also removed the rivets holding in the serial number plaque and kick plate
This was how the cab started off today, better but wasn’t happy with it.

The rubber foot rest is (like everything else) knackered, but looks like it will be easy to replace.

Had to scrape off the adhesive with a plastic ‘spudger’ as I believe it’s called 🤢

From there I blasted the cab with simple green and a brush head for my drill, after a couple of passes it was looking pretty good.

Carefull on the paper labelsVery quick update, as my original TOEI chassis and SNK psu have been repaired (Thanks Grant). I've spent the last couple of evenings cleaning the Toshiba tube in preparation. I used a paintbrush to gently knock off all the dust and then simple green to carefully clean the tube.
It's looking much better, although it need to do another pass with some compressed air to make sure its really clean.
