Hi

I good mate of mine, Will Barber from the pinball scene whom some of you would have met at Rav's recent meet, is organizing a pinball and video show in Worthing in January next year which will be in its second year and asked me if I’d post a bit on here about the event.

The first show was called the South Coast Slam, had about 100 visitors including a few jamma + guys there, Pooman, Senor Herer, Skykid, The focus was pinball for the first show with over 100 machines on free play along with several pinball competitions and a visit from the only remaining pinball manufacturer, Gary Stern.

The intention for next year’s show is a similar format but to have a mix of vids and pins with the hope of emulating California Extreme albeit on a smaller scale. Rav and I have offered to take some vids along to the show but Will is looking for anyone else who can help by providing arcade cabs for the show. I can pass on your details to him of anyone who may be able to help. There’s also the possibility of assistance with transport depending on location and free entry to the show for anyone supplying machines.

Hope some of you guys can help to make this show a cool event and in any respect hope you can come along as we don’t have many shows with arcade vid cabs in the UK these days.

Cheers

Greg

Great stuff Greg, don't know if I could commit to bringing a cab but I'll try and attend if poss. If you can put up the actual dates as soon as you know them it will greatly increase the chance's of getting a pass

I'll stop messing with this now as I'm not sure weather you meant for the title to be 2010 or 2011 since you're talking about next year and this year's event

Sounds good though!

I was there last year and took along a pin. Good location, lots of space and a great friendly bunch. I'll probably go along again with a couple of pins but don't really have any vids that are easy to get there (most are twin drivers and too much hassle to move).

The surprise visit from Gary Stern was definitely the icing on the cake!

Yeah sorry mean 2011!

Also Will corrected me that there were 500 visitors over the weekend, not 100!

Cheers

The last event was great, I'll certainly come along again, especially if there as some vids there too.

I suspect, if I'm going, that I'll be looking for a different hotel this year. Wasn't overly impressed with the one this year. My only real gripe.

the page now reads :

Dates are: Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th February 2011

Opening hours are:
Saturday 10am - 7pm
Sunday 10am - 5pm

I have spoken to Will and I'll be aiming to bring a selection of interesting playable things, the possibilities are:
- Tunnel hunt / Food Fight / I, Robot playable original PCBs on a supergun affair
- Syzygy PONG playable hooked to a TV
- Possibly some vector games, Major Havoc, Tempest, Space Duel Etc... but only in a mono vector 19"
- Laserdisc Games : M.A.C.H 3 playable along with Cobra Command - possibly more!
- Static displays of test equipment maybe? PAT9000, CTF-1, PBS-1, RAM/ROM, Superman Pinrig ??
- Possibly might bring my Namco Puckman cocktail table too..

I'm not entirely sure of the setup right now, but i'd like to bring some rare stuff along to show as a sort of exhibit, as well as having as many playable setups as possible, but these will all be supergun/testrig type affairs not real machines as i don't have them and can't transport much :)

Would bringing the videogame/pin industry testrigs be boring and nerdy and not appreciated? They're cool to look at if nothing else, but are hideously rare ;) CAX always has displays of rare-wares so i'm thinking along those lines...

There will be a few interested but I suspect, given the crowd it's aimed at, it'll go largely unnoticed.

I shall likely pop along at some point seeing as the location is rather convenient for me... Not sure which day, probably the Saturday or maybe both days if games are good and prices favourable. Hope to see a few vids and maybe a Cirqus Voltaire pintable there.

I’ll definitely be there and be looking to get some food and beer in the evening with some of the pinball guys so hopefully we can meet up.

Found a good Thai in Worthing last time. Most of the Italians were fully booked.

Not worth going to Brighton. .

I went last year and if you're planning on going for food, I'd highly recommend booking somewhere. There were a couple of us went into town on the Saturday night and virtually everything was fully booked till 10pm onwards. Did manage to find an out of the way place that moved some tables around to create space thankfully.

Rumour has it there could be an inaugural classic video game tournament on the Saturday, at the Slam.

Any competitors or tournament helpers on the list? If so, get in touch - inbox@phillipeaton.com

Time to see if you're all as good as you think you are...
