ok then the time has come to crack on with some jobs on my super hang on cab it got a few weeks ago.
im not going all out and replacing everything just want to get it in half decent condition and get it looking the best i can and fully working. one of the main problems was the sound but this is now sorted so time to tackle the cosmetics . generally it not in to bad of shape the worst part is around the base at the back where it has been water damaged , so im going to tackle this first

ok then so i taken the plastic hood off the cab to reveal a lovely wells gardner monitor i dont think this has been cleaned since it was new.im sur the picture will look a 100 times better after a clean, the clear plastic on the hood was just as bad too.

heres some pics of the base where it has been water damaged the sides are not to bad and the front just needs a bit of filler, as you can see the one corner has the most damage ive prepped the the base by removing any loose bits and and the painting with some pva glue , because its a water based glue i thinned it down so it would soak into the wood and give it some strength before i apply the filler
once its dried.

Good start Paul, handy the base is plywood. Not sure how well the pva will work? I tried it on the side of a cab but it was still spongy, ended up cutting a bit out and patching a new piece in.

Good stuff. Are you planning on respraying the cab or stripping and replacing the vinyl?

cheers, no not gonna replace the vinyl, just spray black where I have filled it and hope it looks ok :) its at the back of the cab so not to worried.

I have seen your outun resto thread over the road very impressive I have the same cab in need of a full restoration so I might be coming to you for some tips :)

Cool - I filled and sprayed over the vinyl with my OutRun restoration (posted on J+). It looks fine.

I wish I'd gone further and done the inside of the cab now. But spraying the exterior took long enough! :)

With the water damaged bits at the base of my cab, I pulled the rotting wood out and then used P38 to refill those sections.

I found an nice collection of dead woodlice. I like to think they were genuine 80s woodlice, but suspect they may have been more recent inhabitants.

Ok a few more jobs done, in between letting the pva dry and filling and sanding of the base i started on the plastics .

firstly taking the speakers out and plexi glass and then giving everything a good wash with some soapy water , i took all the rusty security bolts and speaker covers and soaked them in vinegar overnight ,it really does get rid of all the rust and paint and takes them back to metal, they were then given a coat of primer and black apart from the ones in the speaker grill that i did silver :)

then onto the ciggy burns on the front of the cab sanded down filled sanded again primes and a coat of gloss white , not perfect but looks loads better :) also got rid of alot of marks on the plastic using a magic eraser , i mad the mistake of buying cheap ones from china they are rubbish compared to a branded type so i will have to go over it again at a later date

Everyone loves a good resto thread. It would've been nice to see what it looked like before you started, to be able to compare to the final finished effort. Do you have a photo of such?

So far though, the cig burns from the white plastic, looks very good, a remarkable difference and hard to say if you could tell once finished.

The vinegar is great isn't it. I had my doubts before I tried it but it really does work. Excellent for those really fiddly bits that you can't easily sand/polish.

Looking forward to seeing how the wood panels turned out. I was really happy with the results from my recent filling/painting, although I did go a bit OCD with the prep !!
