Awww, I checked your site about 4pm incase I'd be able to grab it to listen on the way home.
I still have not found a version of MAME that will work on my laptop (keeps saying missing DLL or something odd), I really wanted to have a bash at Block Hole ready for this.

I shall listen on 2moro's commute home.

Vic, the reference to you having your hands on my joystick was in relation to you mentioning you fitted the joystick on Olly's Puckman cab, which is now mine :)

Just confirming this show (as downloading it) is 54.3mb in size, oddly my computer says I have downloaded podcast29 already but that file was 165mb? - was that pod 28 but incorrectly named.

Looking forward to the next one with Dig Dug as the featured game. Dig Dug was the first ever upright cab I ever owned, and I remember me and a mate trying to get the cab down me mam's cellar steps, which had overhead gas pipes. I remember the top of the cab clobbering said gas pipe, and it was a miracle it never ruptured it.
I have no idea what happened to that cab, no recollection whatsoever what I did with it, who I sold it to, or anything. Weird.

Have you gone down there to see if it is still sitting there?

Victor incorrectly named the Eyes podcast as no. 29 (he shot himself afterwards). The real number 29 is Block Hole, with a reduced file size for quicker downloading.

Sorry about the nakedness. I started off drawing a pic of me on a sunbed sipping a cocktail, but that didn't seem funny enough lol! My wife was in tears of laughter - I'm not entirely sure how to take that...

Listened to it on the way home tonight, another great one folks. Shame Vic was not sold on Block Hole, admittedly I played it most on the gameboy before getting a PCB (which I didn't play so much due to time near an arcade machine, but plenty of time on trains with a gameboy).

The GB version has some difference looking at it now, you could earn various power ups and save them for use in the game, upgrade the ship, go faster etc. You also had to shoot a set amount of blocks to qualify for the end of the game, which meant you had to create large shapes and think more outside the box as it were. Any additional blocks shot were bonus, so it forced you to move fast and create as many points as possible. Looking at the videos on Mame, the arcade appears not to have any of that....maybe the improved it for the GB! Still not played my PS2 version as don't have a console to play imports.

That sound effect Shaun is doing for the history, is the flashback from Waynes World isn't it? get yourself a sample :)

Looking forward to the next one already.
Cheers
Ben

Loved the new Podcast!

Going back a few podcasts ago as I didn't get a chance to comment!

Making games better (2 pods ago)

I love Lunar Rescue - however I find myself when going down and landing on the planet trying to not move the ship or use the thruster. It would have been cool to get a bonus for not maneuvering.

For example timing leaving the dock and going straight down missing all the asteroids and getting a nice bonus!

Also I sometimes try and follow the mothership when coming back up towards it, would be nice to get a score for a perfect dock, or for killing all the alien ships on the journey upwards!

Ridge Racer (1 pod ago)

The launch title for the PS1 was amazing - but was no where near as good looking as the arcade version. Namco about a year or two before the PS1s end of life released a demo disc with the original launch Ridge Racer, providing a single lap of the course. It then allowed you to have another single lap of the course using all the things they had learnt from the PS1 hardware during the course of life of the console - the resolution, texture, and FPS were marked improvements and it really was arcade perfect. The lack of occasional tearing that sometimes happened with the launch title was gone too!

Universal Cosmic Series (this Pod!)

I love these games, I used to actively collect them (I still do I guess) I have the following uprights:

Cosmic Guerilla
Cosmic Alien
Space Panic
Zero Hour
Magical Spot
Galaxy War (came from the Duke)

Can't wait for the next pod!

Thanks Alpha1. I if could, I'd add a fuel bonus to Lunar Rescue. I use very little fuel in early stages and it would be nice to have a bonus at the end of a round for any remaining. I wonder if Cmonkey can reprogram this for us

Eric - huh? It was a listener pick from our very own Bensonrad (listener no.5)

Oll - Do you know where I can get another Universal (licensed) wall mount? I love my Cosmic Alan (Alien

) and would like a Cosmic Guerilla to go next to it
