These two were in Burnham On Sea.

Great photos!

I used to go on holiday to Burnham on Sea in the mid 80's to mid 90's as my grandparents live there. There were three arcades including The Pavilion arcade mini pier over the sea but nothing quite like the one in your pics!

The other arcades at that time were a small one on the high street, and large one on the sea front (Sunspot Amusements). I think the Pavilion and Sunspot still exist but are largely gamblers and crane games etc I think. Sunspot was amazing back in the day. I particularly liked the Sega games and they had:

Hang On (deluxe)
Enduro Racer (deluxe)
After Burner (deluxe)
Outrun (deluxe & upright)
Thunder Blade (deluxe)
Power Drift (deluxe)
Space Harrier (upright)

A real treat!

My good Lord! I went there on holiday as a child, Taikan SH, OR, HO and ER all lined up as soon as one walked in. They were all I cared/talked about all holiday. Taikan SH and OR were a quid a pop. I had seen/played an upright OutRun in Charrington Bowl before but these Taikan coin-ops literally changed my life.

The story behind this picture:

I went to Japan in 2002, as a big Sega fan I visited Dobuita....The place where Shenmue 1 is based.
Whilst looking for some sailors I found a couple, on their day off they were not frequenting bars but were playing Airline Pilots in a local arcade!
Maybe they chose the wrong occupation?

Cheers.

That is mint!

Did you take any video footage of the town?

We went 2 years later and made a vid (coin-ops included):

We couldn't find any sailors, only an odd North American cained army brat kid instead.

An odd vibe to the place for Japan, but so Shenmue obviously.

That picture of Funspot takes me back. It burnt down several years ago and was replaced with a brand new building full of new machines.

Can we go back to the 80's please.

Found this pic I took back in 2009, look closely hehe! I used to drive past this every day on the way to work. Believe it was one of those post-Midway era buildings:

My mind is officially blown:

I found these 2 videos of a Bally/Sente panel at CAX 2014 (California, USA) and they talked extensively about the shrike avenger simulator. To summarize: They showed a prototype shrike avenger! Who would have ever thought there was a prototype of something so rare already! I am very excited about this find. The prototype was a very powerful machine and looks a lot like the max experience. It seems that shrike avenger was the first moving arcade video game simulator. There were about 10 of them made. Its a good thing the designer still has all 10 fingers left after making the thing! It flipped a kid upside down shortly after it was installed at Six Flags Great America.

For reference this is the max experience:
