I asked this in another thread already, but figured this would rather belong into this thread...

What happened to these three games from the Duke of Lancaster raid?

Meadows Gypsy Juggler
Exidy Side Trak

Gremlin Hustle

Can the lucky new owners maybe post some pics? Would be awsome to see them in detail!

Oh well, have a nice weekend everyone!

Wow, I have read it from start to finish and it is one of the best threads i have ever read on a forum. The arcade find is only part of the story, it must have been the nearest thing you can get to going back in time.

Well done to all involved and thanks for sharing your tales.

I hope the Duke is saved because it would be a shame if it was scrapped.

I feel a bit sad when reading reports like this - most hobbies just sort of carry on, i mean people who love football get nostalgic for the old days but its still pretty much the same game, but arcade gaming however is something that can never come back...

I wish i had spent more time and appreciated what was happening when i played games - i was lucky to be in at the beginning when Space Invaders really took off and machines were everywhere, when every Saturday brought new games in the local arcades. Like most people i didn't give a second thought when games disappeared as it was always about the new ones, and now i would kill to be able to play Turbo, Boot Hill, 280ZZZap, a hundred others which i will never see again...

To me the Duke of Lancaster is a fitting allegory for arcade gaming which, if its broken up, will be gone forever... people will remember it, but remembering isn't the same as being able to actually be there..

I know what you are saying, I am kicking myself for never taking photos - but then I would have had to rely on my parents and both cannot take photos

My Dad has a video of us on holiday in the USA around 1987 and we're in the Holiday Inn on International Drive, Florida. They had an awesome indoor arcade and he's filming me playing on the games. I really really need to find that VHS tape and rip it.

Getting back to the Lancaster, the truth is I think she was beyond saving - the outside was bulging from it's own weight, where most of the structural steel was pretty much rust

She was a site to behold though for sure.

Yes you do, if only so we can have a chuckle at what you looked like in 1987.

Again, no pics of old arcades from me either, (1)too cheap to spend money on camera film (2)figured the owners would attack on site (3)never assumed that arcades would effectivley die forever.

Did anyone see Coast on BBC Two last night?

It was about Wales and had a feature at the end of the programme on this ship where they explained the history and showed the inside (no cabs though).

You can watch it on iPlayer now.

The 20 page document isn't new, i read through it back before the deal went through, I guess it may have new content, I didn't read it again.

The only new picture I could see was of a postcard or something. Which particular gallery are these new pics in? I'd like to see them

Already posted these on the other arcade forum a while back, but when I mentioned the Funship recovery to my folks earlier in the year, they were able to dig out some photos of one of our trips there from Sept '84 - which included snaps of me (and my bro) riding the little Helicopter & "Santa Fe" amusements that were recovered during the "raid":

Neat, eh?

(Have included a couple of the 'recovery' photos for comparison).

Uninteresting observation: if you look to the left of the 1984 image of the Helicopter, you can see the same fruity that's visible on the 2012 Santa Fe snap ...

Wow, seeing members as kids playing on these things and then seeing them as they were just before they were salvaged is quite a powerful image, don't you think.

And you can see from what's in the background that the machines probably hadn't even been moved, they were in the same place. Kind of sums up the eeriness and Marie Celeste Arcade type quality of the whole thing.

It brings back just how Epic the DoL arcade rescue was doesn't it. Amazing.
