Just picked this TV up for old school gaming

It's a 4:3 but every time I load up a console with RGB Scart it switches to a stretched 16:9 and looks terrible

Any ideas?

look at your remote you should have a buton that looks like a 4:3 screen with what looks like 2 brackets

that button is for switching between 4:3 and streached

looks something like that

there is a way to set to default

check the scart lead end of your cable it should have a 180 ohm resitor between pin 8 and 16

that forces RGB and 4:3 mode

Opened it up and there's a few resisters already wired up but not to those points you mentioned
It's a Master System but I'd want to do it for all my consoles

Iv got

Master System
PS1
Saturn
Megadrive

try going into the service menu and disable 16:9 mode altogether
see section 4 of this manual:

http://elektrotanya.com/sony_be-4a_be-4_chassis_sm.pdf/download.html

if for some reason 16:9 mode cant be disabled, then instead, adjust the vertical size (ver size) of the 16:9 mode, to make it into 4:3 instead (stretch it!)

EDIT: actually i think the service manual above is for the 21inch model..

for the 14inch model, here is the service manual:

http://freeservicemanuals.info/servicemanuals/download/Sony/kv-14m1a.pdf

(that said, i think the process to get into the service menu/make adjustments is the same anyway.. so any of these manuals should do)

Thanks for you help joe. Iv managed to stretch it so it's 4:3 on 16:9 mode but problem is the screen now doesn't switch between 4:3 and 16:9 even when I put it back to default values. both 16:9 mode and 4:3 have the identical aspect ratio ?

This si the way the streching works with scarts and consoles

Pin 8 as i mentioned earlier is teh aspect ratio pin and its needs to be set like this

Pin 8

Status & Aspect Ratio up

  • 0–2 V ? off
  • +5–8 V ? on/16:9
  • +9.5–12 V ? on/4:3
so to disable any auto switching and leave it for you to do it yourself manually just completely disconect any wire on Pin 8

for 16:9 mode you need to send it a vlotage of 5-8Volts (5Volts is usually perfect)

for 4:3 mode you need to send it 9.5-12Volts (12Volts is usually perfect)

Bear in mind most Console cables have 5Volts on that pin becasue most people prefer a streched screen using a wide screen LCD.

Also to add to this

to get 12v on the Colsoles on Pin 8

Master System no 12V available so will need to remove pin 8 and manually switch
Sega Saturn same as above
Mega Drive same as above
PS1 same as above

another alternative is to get a a small DC/DC stepup regulator and attach that to get 9.5-12V

Okay I understand what I need to do but something has happened independent of that, after I changed the vertical height in service mode I can't get back to switching between 4:3 and 16:9. Well I can but they are now both the same sizes. This is after I have returned settings to default. I still can't get 2 different aspect ratios like I could before I tinkered it.
I Will do the mod on the cables but first I want to get the above back to original

Got a decent sized picture now, got bowing at the top for some reason though. Nothing in service menu seems to effect it Mame4All2015-09-22 01:49:59
