That screen flipping was an interesting fault, I saw it happening. I wonder if its as simple as a noisy dip switch (pin 2). Have you tried switching it a few times and leaving it in the upright position (obviously) ?

I think you would surprise yourself Russ....It was over 20 years since I last played, and I remembered them all...I just fell over when trying to predict the patterns at User. Also I was concious of having spent too long on the cabinet when others were waiting to play, so I stopped paying attention to the game by the end.

I just recently had the chance to play TRON, as i don't usually get the chance to play. I did get to,play one game at the South Coast Slam and scored about 115,000. My highest is about 230,000.

The light cycles usually kill me off after USER as I don't have a game plan and try to wing it when I get there.
I need to get some solid practice and come up with a good, USER up strategy.

I love talking strategies and patterns. It seems like many people have different things that work for them.

I heard Donald Hayes (Previous World Champ) in an interview say that he doesn't count the Lightcycles after user. He said he goes fast and to the right, and does one of 2 patterns when he sees how the cycles are coming. I have never seen him play so I don't know what the patterns are.

I never got round to visiting Phil's to have a play on his repaired machine, hopefully I will bump into him at Play Blackpool this weekend and have a chat about it.

Tron is one of my fav games (in my top 5 anyway) but like I said earlier in this thread I haven't played the game in over 25 years but from what I can remember I used a pattern on the cycles and the cone that had to be changed every 4 'waves' for want of a better word once i'd reached the User levels...if I kept a track on the pattern sequance I were on it wasn't that hard to play in the User levels, saying that the next time i'll play the game i'll be hopeless on it I bet

I'll have you a 2 player :)

My patterns were only concerned with the light cycles, the cone/spiders, although I know the pattern it followed, never bothered me as It was only the left hand side cone you needed to worry about and there was plenty of time to react.

If I remember correctly, all I did was watch out for the Assembly and Pascal bikes, which If memory serves me correct, were two apart, so if you got the recognisers you knew 2 after would be the assembly pattern, and I think I could recognise the tanks before the recogniser level so I was ready for my straight line pattern for Pascal bikes.

Had a couple of games today at PlayExp Manchester.
Was on 280k on the first game when work went and paged me out (by mistake), which was a tad annoying....and then later I played then abandoned the game at 500k with a few lifes remaining. I have fully sussed the User level predictions now.
