who is checking these days if you dont pay your tv license and watch TV?
I think the last I heard they sent a list of households that havent paid for a License or havent declared that they dont need one to G4 Security and then they come visit the houses and knock on the door and ask them if they have been watching TV.

I have to "renew" my declaration every few years when I get a reminder. I think they said once they were sending someone round once to confirm and all they did was knock on the door and post a card through the letterbox as I was out at work.

They mostly work on catching people by relying on them being stupid and admitting they watch TV when they knock on your door, the old TV detector vans I dont think even did anything.

I remember reading in a magazine in the late 80s or early 90s they were discussing change the terms so you had to have a License per TV you had, so the dodgy sellers were selling "signal blockers" so the vans couldnt detect how many TVs you had.

turns out she wasnt, they didnt say naff all and "they" blamed the previous owners and have only been paying for the last 2 years

My experience is: you cancel the licence, they send a letter, you phone them to say "I don't watch the shit telly, I've got Netflix", they say "ok". End.

I asked do I need to unplug the aerial cable, the guy said no it's fine.

So even the people working for them know it's some rip off bullshit 😆

I think in a few years time it will be binned due to how outdated it is with modern viewing. No doubt they'll think up another way to tax you though!

Before then I'd suggest that the best way to get rid of it, or at least speed up the process, is for everybody to refuse to pay it. It would cost them a shitload more in admin than they would ever get back in fines.

Yes, I'm currently appealing my council tax and any reduction to be back dated for the last 6 years 😆

Even if it's £10 a month, I'll take it 🤪
that is new ground that, council tax based on the value of properties from about 30 years ago(i think it is 1994 valuations)

so many scams going on at once we forget which one we should be fighting against

My student loan would be cancelled in two years time. But they handed out £10k to so many people that were never able to pay it back and basically stitched them up, me included, by changing the rules of deferment without notice.

I was told I have to pay it back because I applied for deferral "too early". Next nonsense was that I was in arrears, so can no longer defer. Then they closed the account and gave it over to a debt recovery shit setup. That was after it had been tossed around from the government to private companies.

Currently I am paying £1 a month on a £10k loan with no interest but in doing so have accepted liability.

They should've taken my offer of £400 when my mortgage was £700 less than it is now. Good times 😆

I have the tv licence man pop round ..
He said can I come in look around
I told him I didn’t have a tv
And he could come in but only if he takes his shoes off.
He didn’t want to take his shoes off.

I can only think he thought it was a trick
And someone would steal his shoes
Any way after 5 min of faffing around
He did take his shoes off.
He saw I didn’t have a tv

But not before looking in loft & in the bathroom.
my missus buys a bbc to licnence.
Got no idea why she don’t watch it.
I do watch a little of stuff on iplayer
But like 5 min then I will be off to change a nappy or two.
I don’t watch terrestrial tv at all

I might experiment whether cooking with butane gas canisters is more cost effective than a gas hob.

Problem is, my heating is a gas boiler so can't turn it off.

They really do have you by the danglies, don't they!?

I’m putting log burner in soon and
If you don’t pay a licences installer you invalidate your home insurance.
O well. If you don’t hear from me again you know why.
It actually says on a respected site regarding installation of log burning stoves that if you know someone who knows someone they will check it over for you. It’s not easy to install a chimney flue but it ain’t impossible either. Same with windows and doors now fensa . I tried to become a member but they are just gangsters.
They want thousands off you to be a member.

You'll be absolutely fine 😍
Pretty sure building and contents insurance is bullshit too.

The land it's built on is worth more.

I would never let anyone into my house to check if I had a TV licence - they are a private company and unless they have a warrant issued by a Court and are accompanied by the Police they have no more right to enter your property than someone trying to sell you double-glazing etc.
their tactics rely on people being scared of them and dong what they want. there are many tales of them blatantly lying on their reports about what they have seen when they enter a property.

In short, if you don't watch anything that would require one don't buy a licence, but whatever you do do not let them in your house.

I invited him in
Seemed the simplest way to shut him up and it did. I guess they are not used to that. I didn’t have a Tv so nothing to hide.
Trouble is they make a strange assumption that you have watched bbc 1 if you have a Tv.
Even if you only watch Netflix
But how do you prove it either way?
My Nan & gramps wouldn’t watch tv
If they had no licence. They would wait for it to come before watching.
Old school. I would explain to them that the likely hood of them being prosecuted in there mid 90’s was very slim but not impossible. I’m not sure but I do believe there has been prosecutions of pensioners.
It should be free for folk over 70 I would say at the very least.
