Yes, the UKPP is back for 2011!
(See pinball news article about last years event)
The Open tournament sold out in 3 days last year, this year it almost sold out 14 hours (starting from midnight), when the entries had to be closed to stop it being over subscribed! However, there will be some additional places available at the event taking us up to somewhere around 100 players,
see show tournament website for more. Additionally, this year we have a B division, only open for players outside the world top 250. Yet more trophies to be won! There's also the
Classics Tournament on the Sunday, which is traditionally not so busy, so you can still play to win something!
There are still
Team Tournament places available, so if you're going to be there on Friday evening from 7pm, get yourself a team together and signed-up, or ask to join another team that has already registered but with spaces, the list of teams can be seen at the above web link.
The Team Tournament is a relaxing evening's entertainment to get the event kicked off, it's not super serious for everyone, but it's a great ice breaker and it's over by around 10pm, giving plenty of time for a beer in the bar afterwards.
And that's the whole point of the Party, it's a great social event with some pinball (and usually some vids) thrown in. If you came to the Slam in Worthing earlier this year, you'll get the idea. But of course, the Tournaments are a major draw and we get people from several European countries to play and compete, so you can also mingle with some world class players and maybe play against them if you fancy your chances.
It's a decent venue, the same place as last year, so you can make use of the pool, gym and other facilities. There is a 3-course evening meal on Saturday night with a presentation from
Jack Guarnieri from Jersey Jack Pinball, who is challenging Stern Pinball in the market. He's put together a star-studded team of mostly ex-Williams people with their first new machine being "Wizard of Oz".
Getting tickets, accommodation, parking and dinner tickets is really simple (just a couple of clicks), Andy H who's organising it has done a great job with that, so
take a look over at the UK Pinball Party website now and get yourself some 1st class entertainment!
