Yay, I am finally able to say I can make it! Bought a ticket anyway.

Getting the train up from Reading. What time are folks going by train expecting to get to Manchester Piccadilly ?

I'm really looking forward to it as I need a bit of me time away from real life. I've spoke to Andy and I'm on the list

I'm driving up from Basingstoke, if I'd known you were in Reading could have given you a lift!

Hey all,

Just a quick note, to let those thinking of taking the Tram (Metrolink) from Manchester Picadilly (as a bunch of people are coming by train) to Bury.

Sadly, it has engineering work, however there is a replacement bus service (this basically calls at each tram stop). I had this last time on the way back, its ok, but not sure if there is a faster direct bus instead...looking into it, but appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions, hints, etc. :)

Cheers,

DaveO.

Ahh thanks for pointing this out, from here in Eccles, it looks like getting the bus would be the better option, the replacement buses on the tram routes feel like they go on forever.
(for the way there, I'll most likely get a bus that crosses the 135 route and then get on that to Bury)

Does anyone know how much a taxi from Manchester Piccadilly to Bury would be? I'm to lazy for all the hassle of buses and replacement bus services ...

cheers in advance...

When I went to arcade club a couple of Months back I was shocked how cheap the taxi was from the premier inn to the club, just a couple of quid or so. Okay it wasn't that far but when you are used to Cambridge prices its very nice indeed especially if you share.

I would have thought it has to be anywhere between £10 and £20?

Just a heads up on Manchester black cabs... they have an odd rule that if the destination is 4 miles beyond the city boundary (and I think Bury is), you should negotiate the fare driver rather than use the meter fare.

Taxi Fare

This basically means they can quote any price they see fit at the time...

Might be worth using private hire cabs to get a cheaper fare - but you will have to book these in advance.

As for buses, I'd probably stick with the tram replacement service. Alternatively walk down to Piccadilly gardens and find the 135.

Don't ask me about Uber. I don't understand Uber.
