UK Weather getting more extreme?

The Earth is but a small spec of dust in relation to the Cosmos. Whether by design or by accident, there's a fantastically designed system put in place that keeps it running like clockwork and within parameters that are way above and below what that graph is showing. The equipment used to create that graph is not going to be accurate throughout all of the years that the Earth has gone through it's temperature changes.

Whilst that graph looks nice, the single biggest thing that affects the temperature of the earth is the Sun.
Sun goes behind clouds or isn't in sight (for example at night) the EARTHS temperature reduces, if there's high solar flare activity, the UNIVERSES temperature rises.

Common sense tells me that oil is a natural occurring resource that the Earth produces to lubricate itself to reduce seismic disturbances and it's also a substance that insulates the crust from the molten hot core. Common sense also tells me that it's not a finite substance made from dinosaurs. The other 'stuff' in there is also there for a reason, not just for making car batteries and mobile phones. Take this oil out at a rate greater than it's produced, would this not cause earthquakes and also heat up the planet which in turn causes greater gusts of wind?

The atmosphere keeps stuff in and most stuff out.
It's a complicated system that is quite robust.

A few years back I’d have taken the time to go through all these spurious conspiracy theories but Branolini’s law applies and in honesty once people are that invested in misinformation, you’ve little hope to change their minds, at least over an internet forum.

All we can do is educate our kids with robust critical thinking skills and hope for the best. Our generations are selfishly fucking things up for them, but they won’t put up with it indefinitely.

Brandolini's law, also known as the bullshit asymmetry principle, is an internet adage coined in 2013 that emphasizes the effort of debunking misinformation, in comparison to the relative ease of creating it in the first place. The law states the following:
We could just do what Bill does, problem solved!

Sorry but you are wrong.
The fact is we know how the temperature changes over time and if you look at the data it's showing a sharp increase over the last 200 years.
There has never been such a sharp increase before because the changes you describe take place over geological scales-thousands or millions of years.

'Whilst that graph looks nice, the single biggest thing that affects the temperature of the earth is the Sun.
Sun goes behind clouds or isn't in sight (for example at night) the EARTHS temperature reduces, if there's high solar flare activity, the UNIVERSES temperature rises.'

What does that have to do with a graph that shows an obvious spike in temperatures that has never occurred before?

This is only a cartoon but it's data is accurate.

A timeline of earths average temperature

EDIT: And you will find it's the deniers that lie with statistics.

When I was young the wind was so bad it blew an old lady over who lived by my Mom in Bham, she wasn't hurt but I'm pretty sure it shook her up a bit. Recently I haven't seen any people being blown over by the wind in Bham, so it seems a bit better to me.
A truly fine example of evidence based reasoning and critical thinking. I rarely lol, but sheesh ... !

What does that have to do with a graph that shows an obvious spike in temperatures that has never occurred before?
If the Sun has above normal solar activity or if the insulation from the molten core is reduced, these things are going to heat up the Earth in some way.

I'm not saying what the solution is or if it's a thing that we do or don't need to be overly concerned about, I'm just stating that other factors can affect what temperature is being recorded on whatever equipment is being used and that the equipment has only been around a minute fraction of whatever age the Earth is.

So you are saying that the sun has suddenly started to raise the temp of this planet in a way that it's never done before.
And at just the same time as we went industrial. That's one hell of a coincidence.
Do you think the sun isn't closely monitored? That the effect the sun has on our planet isn't known?

The world's government's couldn't organise an orgy in a brothel (obviously can't use the piss up in a brewery analagy with ours ) There's no way the fucktards in charge could pull off a global conspiracy of the magnitude being contemplated.

The world is getting hotter, hotter weather drives increased storm / flood activity

Is it all caused by humans probably not, but we are a big factor and the only ones capable of effecting change.

See Hanlon’s razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

This explains a lot about the state of our chaotic world, but it’s easier for the brain to blame it on ‘them’ and file it away nicely than consider the complexity of it all and how our lifestyles contribute to the malaise.

This stuff used to be limited to the whacky fella in the pub or the seedier backwaters like 4chan, but it’s pervading most of my hobbyist forums now.

I like we can still chat about old games and so on but it does put me off coming to meets as I just don’t have the energy to humour these kinds of views anymore.

I think we can all agree that anyone deflating tyres in the name of climate change... is a wanker.

That feels like something we can bond over...

(In the interest of future good relations, apologies to any wanker who has let down tyres in the name of climate change)

Did you actually read your own link? The executive summary and the four hundred pages of evidence show the opposite of what you are arguing and don’t include the last 30 years where we’ve seen the sudden acceleration, although it predicts it.

Never mind that though, you found a pretty picture which out of context you think proves your argument…

I’m going to drop out of this one now as it’s so thoroughly depressing and I just don’t have the energy. I come to this forum to relax and enjoy talking and fixing old games and these types of threads are having the opposite effect.

There hasn't been any acceleration in average global temperatures since the turn of the century.

This is Michael Mann's famous hockey stick graph that they use to scare children. Notice how the previous highs and lows have been wiped out to make it look like temperatures began to go out of control around 1900.

It's a complete fraud.

Edited for sarcasm 🙃

It seems to me that people are using the unprecedented access to information we all enjoy to become less informed about things.

That fact that conspiracy theories and the anti truth movement persist in such times is indeed depressing.
