"We stood last night in the place called The New Frontier - the frontier of the 1980s, the frontier of amazing gaming opportunities , the frontier of unfilled high scores ... within The New Frontier you will find rare games, familiar games, games you may not have played before, unanswered questions to be settled on who is the greatest gamer"

Ok, so this is a modified version of the acceptance speech made by JFK about the new frontier from 1960 but I think it is what he would have said had he been there last night.

I just wanted to say thank you to James, Andy and Carol (plus other helpers) for a fantastic gaming night. The selection of games was fantastic, there was a great ambiance and it really did take you back to the good old days.

It was also good to catch up with everyone and meet some new UKVAC members. I was pleased with my Gyruss high score that stood for a while during the night to be eventually be completely trashed by Russ , nice one mate.

Thank you for sharing those who were lucky enough to go: that place looks huge! It's nice to see so many iconic vids all lined up, working and being enjoyed. I never thought I would see something on this scale again. Too many 'wow!' moments in those videos but I'm knocked out by the fact you've managed to find a Thunderblade sit down! Hen's teeth for sure; only 2 in the UK?!

Had a fantastic night last night,it was just pure retro gaming heaven at its very best
smiley20.gif

James and Andy got the 80's arcade ambience down to a 'T'...the whole layout,lighting,80's music playing in the background was just mind blowing, even down to the 'walkway spacing' between cabs was spot on
smiley32.gif
...the only gripe I had was it was just too warm in there at times but thats what ya get when there are say 100+ arcade cabs turned on with easily 80+ ppl in the same room as well
smiley36.gif

It was great to catch up with a few familier faces and meet new faces as well
smiley20.gif

Everyone was buzzing which even attracted the local constabulary at one point as well
smiley36.gif
,we tried to get him to play a few credits on some games but he wasn't taking the bait
smiley36.gif
(should have had a word with him Jon
smiley2.gif
)

Had the top score on Starwars for a little while (2mill) but ended up letting it 'game over' then Tronads comes up and puts 3mill on there
smiley36.gif
(I were watching for a short while whilst he played the game but didn't realise it was him
smiley9.gif
,I should have said something but I didn't want to disturb his game play.....

Loved playing Tron for the first time in years, got just over 100.000 if I remember rightly,I just couldn't remember the bloody light cycle pattern I used BITD for 'Fortran' which was well annoying
smiley36.gif
I kept losing the game at that point, but I eventually managed to get through it right at the end of the night (typical innit) and made it to 'PLI' then misjudged the direction of the cone
smiley36.gif

Big thanx to Andy and James and families for putting on such a great event, hope its the first of many to come, nice one you guys
smiley20.gif
smiley32.gif

@edwoodjnr (Gav).....I managed to get to Earth another 4 times after you and your lad wondered off, clocked the game at 1mill and got it back to around 130.000 or so,clocked the stages at 99 as well. The only downside to rolling the score is that it keeps the high score up there but you can't put your name on the high score chart
smiley36.gif
,so you still did have your name on the top of the score chart but not on the high score are on the attract and game mode so to speak

You should have said hello when I was on Starwars, its not a game where you really have to concentrate too much.

I was well impressed with Tron, and managed an abandoned 320k at the end of the night which I was well pleased with...even remembered in the end how I used to predict the Assembly light cycles pattern on User. Hopefully the battery backup is working on it !

Spoke to Mark about the joystick on Tron, which was a million times better than it was at Play Blackpool, where it was actually unplayable. They haven't actually managed to get the replacement grommet yet, which is why it still stepped occasionally, but they did give it a good clean up as it was full of crappy gunk, and it has made all the difference. I don't really think it needs any more work on it now.

I no I should have said hi
smiley9.gif
...like you say mate its not a game that needs a lot of concentration...

Did you find that Starwars was running very slow ? it was for me for some reason and tbh it was quiet off putting,i put it down to the dip settings,it must have been set on 'easy' (I run mine on 'hardest') still it was user friendly for the party (9 shields 1 shield bonus I think it was)..

Like you say I found that on the light cycle part on Tron every know and then i'd pull the joystick 'right' and it would do the 'zig zag' diagonal 'down' instead, which was a prat at times but for most part it was fine mate

Incredible. Looks like it was an amazing event! I don't think I've ever been in an arcade that had so much goodness in it as a youth. I must make it next time.

Wondered about the police turning up! just thought some puffy jacket got pushy with a kid on Street fighter 2 or something like what used to happen BITD.

I never spotted the Police, what was the issue, were they just on a routine patrol and spotted there were folk in there so just a quick check, or had someone complained about something ?

Tronads - star wars not a game you have to concentrate to hard on - erm, speak for yourself lol.

The police responded to a call from a concerned neighbour that there were a lot of people hanging around the business units at the end of the street where we were.

They came in, had a quick look around, were happy that it wasn't a big rave going on and got on the radio to say "its fine, they've got space invaders and pac man" and then promptly started talkting to Linda & Carol about booking the place.

Seriously, it reads like a sketch from a comedy show but there were plenty of witnesses to that.

Nice to have concerned neighbours, we thought we'd spoken to everyone that was immediate to us but its time to let everyone know and also get the secret garden sorted out instead of people being out front.

Thank you for everyone who came, it has been a major push this last few weeks.

The cooling was something we knew about and had concerns for, we had hoped to get the contractors in but they need all the machines out of the way to fit the room side vents etc, we've scheduled them to come while the place is empty for Play Expo. Some machines felt the heat a bit and had to be reset a few times. It proves we did the job right insulating the place to protect the machines.

We'll be running many more but its time to pay the bills now so we'll be pimping the cabs out now in a world domineering like megalomania fashion on every street corner, launderette, chip shop or fairground - not!

Next one decicated for you guys will be in November sometime. There will be one for everyone else shortly too as the social media groups want to come and play too but it was always going to be community first.

I'll now return to my soldering bench.....

I played Outrun DLX. Thought I'd played my final credit on that 25 years ago.

What an amazing arcade / experience.

Many thanks to all that made it possible.

I had the weirdest dream last night... I went back in time to the most amazing arcade that you could ever imagine... All of the classics side by side, great lighting, 80's music blaring out of the speakers and get this - all on FREE play!!!! If only life could be so sweet...

But seriously James/Andy (and everyone else behind the scenes that made it happen), what you have achieved is unbelievable... It is far better than any arcade that I ever went to back in the day. It was also my first event - so what an introduction! Many thanks to Russ J for the lift and thanks to everyone that I spoke to that made me feel so welcome.

My only recommendation would be to either levy an entrance fee or have a donation bucket - maintaining all of those machines wont be cheap - and as for the electricity bill...!

Already looking forward to the next one...

I'm just home. Knackered!

Massive thanks to James and Andy. Plus all the others who mucked in to help build the place.

The After Burner cockpit had me grinning from ear to ear. I was sitting in it just soaking up all the lovely 80's-ness from it.....just sitting in it.....fantastic feeling. Then bloody Ben76 barged in thinking I didn't know how to credit it up, pressed the button and away I went

Cheers Ben!

Congratulations to James and Andy on a great event, my first RGP event and it certainly lived up to the hype.
Loved duck hunt, not played it in 20 years but all the memories came flooding back!
Couldn't get past level 3 (dispite numerous attempts) on g&g as you only got one continue.
I was top on mr do at one point but forgot to check back to see if I had been beaten before I left, doh!
I realised that double dragon isn't as good as my memory tells me it was and that level 10 on arcanoid is very frustrating!

Awesome event, great to meet some people (frothmeister/ keyamon) and I'm glad otto made it home (alternator?)
I wish the name badges had made an appearance as there were loads of people who I never got round to saying hello to as I didn't know who was who.
