Something that Gary mentioned about the flyers we were giving out at Blackpool and for the new players.
I (RGP) have been putting on about 3-4 retro gaming parties, mostly arcade focused for nearly 4 years, i have kept these FREE to anyone in the community to come to, its my way of giving something back. I, like many, rely on the mass technical knowledge of those gifted people who contribute when I stick my hand up and say "I've got a problem". I want to learn all the disciplines of keeping these games alive, something i know i'll enjoy way into later life even if we have to devise new ways to replace unobtainable products.
I set out with two aims, collect only the games I personally loved and will play and not to hoard them away where nobody can play them.
So, the parties I do for the community are free as a way of saying thank you for supporting me.
When Andy and I teamed up, we agreed we'd still run these 3-4 events as our schedule permits and we'd keep them to free or, as a few have done in the past, accept a non compulsory donation towards costs. We put on food and drink which I have to buy in and pay a caterer to prepare things while i get on with prepping the machines.
The more sinister side if you will is that we said that for all outside the community, all bets were off and we'd introduce reasonably priced products and services to help cover the cost of the building etc.
We quietly publicised our first product at Play Blackpool called "ARCADE CLUB". As the name suggests this will be a regular gathering at another location to play games on an entry fee basis rather than pay per play, we have been growing a mailing list and are almost ready to tell everyone about it properly.
This will be aimed more at the general public than the community but I guess for the hardcore there'll be no keeping some away
Arcade Club will offer benefits based on a monthly membership than a pay on the door.
