Due to the current disaster I feel some important aspects of our hobby have been overlooked...

What would you say is the most pungent machine in your (or another's) collection?

Personally nothing will match the vomit/sweat/coca cola whiff when I replaced my Gyruss control panel overlay. It was a very nostalgic odour though, I'll admit that.

Please share...

The first Astro City I got couldn't have smelled more of cigarettes if it was smoking a full pack of B&H at the time of its arrival. I’ve owned it for about 5 years and have given it 2 deep cleans but I still get a waft of ciggies when I open the PCB door.

I have 7 cabs in the living room. Sometimes when I walk past I get this waft of old cab (especially when they are switched on). I am very fond of it.

Scud race innards covered in rat piss/rat feaces/rat vomit, the smells being reanimated by a warm car during a 2 hour drive wasn't pleasant I can tell you.

My Manx TT was absolutely rotten with mould and when I opened appeared to be flea infested too. Outside with a lot of disinfectant. Stinky.

Fleas? lol

There was a story (on some forum I think) about a cab that was totally infested with insects - a biological hazard. It cleaned up well enough though I believe. Not sure if the story is still around

For years!!!! And the cabs has been in there for years!!!
Wolf bas cab full of white fungus and cobwebs
Definite biological hazard—
Still pulled chassis
2x Mvs Metal slug 2. Wind jammers....
cleaned em up. After a few attempts they are working!!
It was like raiders of the lost cabs... dark dank smelly arse cabs!

Got an Aero from Yanton and despite numerous cleans/being repainted and hanging a black ice tree inside it still smells of smoke when I open it up

I bought our first cab from a filthy household that must've lived on greasy fry-ups. It was very sticky and smelt like a deep fat fryer. It took many yellowed buckets of soapy water to descuzz it.

I can relate to dripping roofs. There was one cabinet that was directly under a drip, and it had managed to bore a rotten hole right through the top of cabinet all the way to the bottom. Had been in the exact position for years. It was like the result of a waterfall forming in nature, only wooden and eh, more smelly.

Still, got a bad dudes out of it, and it amazingly worked. Living up to their name I suppose :)

Another time I called into a casino place asking about this and that. The usual strange looks and "we got nothing"

While I was talking to dudes at the cash counter there was a woman (obviously a regular) waiting impatiently for me to f**k off out the way.

So anyway I leave and I'm outside in the parking space scratching my balls when the woman comes running out after me. Now, she looked a bit mental. "they're lying to you"!" she says, like it's this big government secret.

"follow me!" she says beckoning me around the back of the building. At this point I'm not sure what's going to happen, but sure why not, I follow her around.

So she leads me out the back to this scrappy little field and starts pointing, "see? See?!"

There was the top 20% of a cabinet buried in the dirt at an angle. The whole place smelled like a toilet, bad enough I didn't even investigate it, even though it was LONG gone past saving.

Then she tells me about their secrets, and where they hide them all, and where to go, and not to believe them. And she was right!

Strange things, strange people and strange smells :)

I very briefly had my head within 1m of the open rear door of Pat's Enduro Racer DLX that we saved on a rural raid last year. The mould was thicker than a 1980's carpet.

Pretty sure opening that cab kicked off this whole covid thing, the pangolins in Asia are totally innocent!

strange indeed!
and smelly stuff man! i knew them pangolins we’re innocent all along!
someone in here was looking for a free cab for a project and i could
even recommend this cab for free as i thought it could have killed both...
man this was a dark place... for 364 . 9999999 days a year.. with constant dripping from ceiling
the cobwebs stretched acrosss wall to wall of the garage like 8ft ? and i’m like “ what kind of spider can web wall to wall? stalag tights from the ceiling
and arcade mites growing up from algee . i stuck my head round the back tring not to breath in the spores in the air. just in case there was a pcb in there! and it was a thick carpet on the floor and walls of the inside of the cab
white as the snow! white hairy puff balls of fungus one pulled atop the other looked like albino furbies at an orgy!

When i rebuilt the pedal box in my Outrun,

i found not only a mouse nest and 30 years of crap,

but the mouse itself had decided where better than

the bottom of an Arcade Cab to end it's days.

Clearing out that mummified mouse and many of his

second hand lunches from years past, really did stink!!
