:ROFLMAO:
I really enjoyed this story yesterday, simply becuse I did exactly the same thing to a Raleigh Striker when I was around 12.

The disappointment afterwards is horrendous!

Street Sounds! Very cool indeed!

A friend of mine collects consoles, he has three Vectrex brand new in their box, literally brand new. The same with Atari 2600 etc, all brand new boxed, mint, bonkers!!
Yeah, bonkers. I don't understand collectors of stuff they can't even take out and play with, but each to their own. 🙂

My dad had his Railway setup in the loft before we moved house and the new one hadn't got decent loft for it, so just been boxed up since, I got him hooked on Train Simulators though so he's happy with that now. He likes Great Central where we live
He could always donate his stuff to me ?? Lol

I don't really collect much else. At one point I was buying PS1 games when I was drunk and surfing eBay lol. Still have my old consoles and used to buy anything console related at the carboots.

Only other stuff is animation cells and Garbage Pail Kids.

Trading cards used to be my main thing along with video games. Still got them from my youth, Garbage Pail Kids/Gang, Marvel, Simpson's, Star Trek, Movies etc. Got back into them a bit during covid and decided to finish some of my collections (getting chase cards, promos etc). It's been fun revisiting them.

Guitars, I seem to have acquired a collection over time with out really realising how many I had currently at 14 and it appears I have the same problem with these as I do with arcade cabs, they don't all get played.

I’ve been collecting ex-rental VHS tapes for the last few years. I’m trying to not let it go too out of hand.

Its nice to be in a hobby that I don’t have to spend a fortune to collect for.

Glad you said Trying

There is some good stuff on VHS but I just don't have space for them all, specially the Big Box Ex Rentals, have a few like The Wraith, Breakin 1 & 2 so I'm buying everything I used to have on DVD, then I decided I would buy more Bluray's, so I'd been replacing the DVD's, trouble is then I thought what do I do with the DVD's as there pretty much Worthless most of them, so plan was get Bluray as well, box up the DVD covers and add trays, swap cases so there combo Bluray/DVD, other bonus is height of cases, I can fit in extra shelves for bluray and sell the Empty cases as you get about the same money

Some I remember watching on VHS or had copies, 976 Evil, Ghost Town, Witch Bitch (aka Death Spa), Waxwork (one of my 80's favs) there was another I had which was a Preview Cass with timer running in corner, took me long time to find what it was called Vital Signs, only part I remembered was it was in Medical School and the music at the start sounded brilliant back then as it was early on when I first got Hi-Fi Vhs Panasonic which transformed watching movies

What are you watching them on out of interest?

Yep, been collecting stuff long enough to know how addictive it is so no point lying to myself :D

Right now I'm not watching any of them from VHS, I download the rips from online and watch them on my computer with headphones on. Generally I try and find new movies from 70s, 80s and 90s to watch and if I really like them I will track the tape down. Of course I collect the tapes I remember loving growing up too.

I have fond memories of going to the local video cabinet and seeing all the box art along with watching some movies for the first time from there. So the end game is to recreate that feeling in my home cinema room and these will be used mainly for display purposes. But at the same time I'm on the look out for a VHS player and adding to my games room to maybe watch on my CRT TV.

Ah right, I wondered if you had a Nice big CRT TV, No good on LCD Projector or TV like Laserdisc

I started downloading divx stuff early 2000's, was some good films out then and got loads of old stuff too, then as got better Projectors I wanted everything on DVD, same again then when got 3D Panasonic Now want Bluray, few reasons, Audio Louder on many, more older ones in 5.1 and get rid of the annoying jump when switching layers, or turning dvd over in case of first release of Starship Troopers lol

Another late 80's one I had on tape I was looking for a few years back, Clownhouse. I found out why its not easy to get on DVD, can get it easier now but the Director Victor Salva was Convicted Paedophile abusing 2 kids in the movie, then when he was back out of jail he was back making Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2
Puts you off wanting to watch Clownhouse again

It was pretty cool going down local Video Rentals in 80's and seeing all the Covers, great memories for sure:)

That's a good site, Last time I looked for that movie I could hardly find anything and found out it was also called Death Spa, I borrowed the tape from work and recorded it, used to get all sorts that rental VHS has chewed up and they had to pay so they had a box full of tapes

I've got three cars that are over 20 years old, if that counts as a collection 😬 (it's another interest anyway)
Has to really lol, what you got

I forgot other day to add Cars, also have 4 that are over 20 years old, newest HRV 2000, 1994 CRX Targa mk3, 1989 JDM CRX Mk2 and 1985 CRX mk1 need to sell the Mk1 though really, shame when it's Tax and MOT exempt in less than 2 years and knowing my luck soon as I sell it prices will increase

I do have a 4:3 Rear Projection TV which is around 43" that I plan to integrate into my setup at some point.

I did go down the DVD route in the late 90s and early 2000's basically buying all the classic movies, I still have them all but in the loft right now. I prefer to watch all my movies digitally now, quick access to everything you want to watch. The only thing that becomes expensive is storage.

Lego for me, at least it was until the price got insane. A lot of the thrill for me is the after-sale market though. Seeing what I have and how much I paid for it. Which is a shame as it is there to be built, not left in a box.

2002 Golf TDI (got it for a grand 10 years ago - disposable car I never disposed of, 'cos I keep fixing it)
1997 180SX (weekend toy)
1993 MX-5 (never moved since I acquired it a decade ago.

Got way too much projector/RPTV stuff too, but that's part of the arcade hobby.
