Also, get on to trading standards etc

I doubt trading standards would do anything to be fair even though what he has quoted to "Test" is clearly robbery. I would question the amount they want to charge you to open the back, Look in and say the value of the Cab would cover the work , What work ???

If they had said £20 for time or something it would not be so bad. I totally understand people charging to check things over I charge to diagnose PCB's when I do them. Basically you have to repair a PCB to quote it correctly or spend hours and hours to find out its a custom !!! Also if you spend hours repairing a board and tell them its gonna be £40 only for them to say " I wont bother ", Nothing more frustrating. I don't do that for free. But clearly they have NOT done any of this and spend NO time so why the big bill ??

I Would be questioning there motives for the price.

Did they ever mention a checking fee or price for looking at the cabinet ??

Dave.

P.S I would be interested to see who it is , I am sure we can all avoid them in the future.

I need to make things clear that no prices/costings were discussed prior to sending the Cabinet in, I just wanted it repaired and had hope it was a transformer or power supply issue and nothing to do with the monitor.

There also has been no indication I have a bill at present,

I asked if was to leave the cab with them(rather than paying £100 shipping back) what was it’s scrap value, they advised the only thing worth any money is the MVS board and they would said that back to me at their expense. Moremonj2020-08-08 21:43:40

The sad thing is that companys/people try and take advantage of other people with less knowledge

I know it happens in most other trades too but there needs to be more ways these shady people can be blacklisted from owning a buisness to stop them ripping people off

I had the windowscreen fitter try to do it to me a few weeks ago
He done a sh*t job bodged a windoscreen in and my wife paid him in cash while i was out and of he went
I complained about the scratched screen he had fitted lop sided
And all of the trim that was loose and incorrecrly glued in

He then came back a few days later and tryed to bullsh*t me to my face
Im a qualified mechanic and pointed out all of his bullsh*t face to face and in front of his son but
I got a new screen fitted in the end but he tryed so hard to lie and get away with a poor quality overpriced job
Its so annoying pure greed in action again

I really do appreciate all the replies and I am just sad that it appears I may be taken advantage of. I really hope this is not the case I really do.

Maybe the extent of my damage has not been explained in great depth due to the my lack of my knowledge.

If for say I needed a new 26” monitor, a new power supply what should I expect to pay for this including labour? As I said I have no idea.
The only reason alarm bells starting ringing was the fact I was offered a customised cab for £1000/1200 rather than repair mine and do a clean up job on a few bits which to me made no sense.

As others have said, politely decline their offer and get the cab back. It's gonna be one of those times you have to cut your losses.

Basically they want to either keep your cab to tart up and sell on at an extortionate price, or charge you an extortionate amount for repairs. Don't give the scum bags your money or your cab. You would sell a none worker depending on condition for £100/175 I reckon if you don't want it anymore but you may has well try and get it fixed with on here.

The windowscreen was blackcountry windowscreens

The untrustworthy arcade company is the one that ripped me off a few years back

‘The only thing of value’ is the MVS, so they are sending you that back... so they can tart up your BAS and sell it on for over £1000 ??

Cowboys. I go out of my way to get things sorted for anyone purchasing something from me. I try to offer more than they expect for what they pay. The Arcade Karma will bite them in the butt.
