When my Nan passed away, we asked family members to take whatever they wanted and whatever remained we then donated to charity shops where she used to various buy stuff herself. My Nan had some really nice clothes which were expensive to buy at the time, she loved C&A and other shops of the era. When I took them to the shops, I split them into piles which went to different shops rather than dump the lot off at one shop. I found doing it that way was very therapeutic considering the amount of stuff she had.

Anyhoo, yesterday I started with the task of accomplishing my new years resolution of decluttering and after buying 2 Ikea Kallax shelving units on the afternoon, a 1 x 4 high and a 2 x 2. I assembled them on the evening rather than procrastinate.

At the same time I also bought a few different modules (If that's the correct term) that go into the square spaces. A double drawer section, a couple of wicker baskets and a couple of cupboard doors for some of the shelving/squares. I'll buy whatever else I need at a later date when I have an idea of how I want to store different stuff. I did find that 2 of the 'Really Useful Storage' 9L boxes stacked on top of one another can go into one square, which is useful as I have a bunch of those with various bits in them.

Then after cutting up loads of spare boxes (Am I the only person who has a fetish for keeping cardboard boxes just in case I need one for posting stuff?) , I put the George hoover hoses and carpet cleaning accessories in 2 of the lower section cupboards and now George has a place to sit on top rather than being on the floor in the way. The accessories used to be dumped in the original box which I was now able to get rid of (There's that fetish with keeping boxes again).

The soldering iron and desolder station is now in one of the baskets rather than being in their cardboard boxes. I'm now looking forward to organising stuff into the other sections, very strange to hear myself saying that tbh. I do need to temporarily store some stuff in the living room so the Old Charm dresser has to go. After seeing what storage options are available these days, that big bulky thing has to go, even though it looks nice with it's solid oak oldfashionedness.

I think the main issue with accumulating tat over the years is being able to store them efficiently and knowing when it's time to move something on when it's no longer needed. As a hoarder from a family of hoarders I hope one day I can break the chains of being a hoarder.

I really should have bought into more modern storage solution years ago.

Ha ha! No. When the guy came to replace a part on my boiler the other week I asked him if I could have the box it came in as it will be useful, it was a good size and I commented on its mighty double-walled properties that it possessed 😆 I never throw a cardboard box away! 😆👍

It's far quicker to buy the stuff than it is selling it all

I've got old Ghetto Blasters everywhere, Vintage Technics Hi-Fi piled up, used to fix loads of it and sell it but cars then took over and I just can't be bothered to do stuff anymore, Every room in the house is full of stuff, the arcade building and 5 sheds, I really need to pull my finger out and get this mess sorted

I've been trying to sell Dining Table for ages and was thinking about giving that away, only cost me £600  got it before I bought even more machines thinking I would have the house half normal but that never worked out

Fed up of all the stuff everywhere now and need to get listing on ebay and get fixing things again if you can even sell half of it now, seems the ebay magic has gone on secondhand stuff, if you get a few views now thats about it, I remember days of ebay when you'd get 200 views on an empty box

One shed is half full of Cardboard boxes and packing for when I do sell things, all that stuff used to be in the loft before being converted, even thats full of stuff:cry:

I look around at my stuff and I’m like.
Hooooooolllllllyyyyyyyy shoot Batman
What have I done.
Then I go back to planing
How I can make more space for more stuff!
Which is where I’m at.
Next project after kitchen is new side room for my arcade stuff.

I call it watch bay, as people only "Watch" stuff now, with no intention of bidding. You can have an item for sale for £50, and send offer to 9 people for £25, and still ignored, with no sale. Ebay is dead now.
Death by a thousand cuts ..
Slowly all the resellers of cheap Chinese goods seeps through the cracks just a trickle a first ..
That’s why the watching because it’s like a game.
Hunt down the genuine item that is not just cheap repetitive Crap and see what it gets, if it sells ..
Like watching stocks and shares rise and fall ..

There’s no real alternative to eBay though is there ?
It can be a real minefield though ,some great buyers and sellers ,spoiled by some real scum ,thieves ,scammers and auction spoilers

Used to be able to look through ebay category when say Coin Op section had 3000 listings now there is so much crap to trawl through you give up, even if you search for things they don't show up even when you have link to it and type the exact title in, there must be 1000s of bargain items end each day because most don't see it for all the new items

When you have 1 seller listing a battery charger 1000 times putting every make and model of motorbike they can think of, its no wonder people don't see stuff, if 1000 sellers list 1 item 1000 times there are 1 million item listings for 1000 items, ebay don't care though

Watch bay is about right mate, tried to sell one of my cars, about 40 watchers and 0 bidders, yet they bid more for one with no MOT and didn't come with 500+ quid of extras I'd added to mine

I need to keep listing stuff on ebay, it's the only way I can tidy the place up if I get rid of things, need this out my way so I can put more machines where it is, I'd give it away if I knew it was going to someone that actually wants it and not just flip it, one guy wants £250 for chairs, another asking £2,400 for table (idiots) but average price table and chairs sell for at Auctions is about £400, the glass is one of the heaviest things I've lifted 2m x 1m and 1/2" thick

I wonder have we missed the boat of shifting our stuff
With all this talk of getting taxed for sales on eBay etc ?
Is it something to be concerned about if it’s your own stuff you’re selling to clear space ?stuff you’ve already been taxed on and not a business

is that how they go about it ?
I’ve only really been selling crap that would be hard to give away
Though strangely it’s been selling quite well
Any cabs I’ve had forsale .have just attracted a total load of time wasters ,so don’t see any more going on anywhere .
It’s the old hoard of general crap I’m shifting .

I'd be interested to know within the official guidance what defines if you made a profit on a few personal items sold. Is it done solely on the original purchase price vs sold price?
Are you allowed to factor in costs such as storage, maintenance costs etc provided you have the invoices?

I live in hope that they are just targeting the people really taking the piss
Like shops or business not declaring
Or the people with 100 000 listings ,selling brand new stuff .
