The cpo looks, good work!

I've had a look through my pics as I'm sure I've got a good pic of the stenciling you were talking that was in good conduct but I haven't found it yet. May be on an old phone. I'll attach the ones i found so far but they are poor quality but show 2 variants. I'll try find a better pic.

Brilliant!
Thanks for posting, the first picture is the same as on one of mine . Think the Xenon logo in center works the best will see if Possible to have vinyl cut .

Jotted the dimensions and positions down from panel today. I think version with ‘Xenon’ in central area works best. Think it will be a nice Touch to have the original stenciled area back on.

Great work mate, looking good

Sanding down coin doors is a ball ache, so difficult if you want to do the inside with the corners. so much easier doing all that now I have Sandblasting cabinet setup but you still need to get powder coating off first or most of it as it takes an ages with small nozzle, big pressure pot would do it better but then you need a different setup. I use heat gun and scrape powder coat off first then sandblast parts. then you have dust collector to keep sorting out, unblock the filter full of dust, keep changing covering on window as you can't see so still takes time

NEW CPO's look great, nice to get to that stage of things looking better

Nice cabs Electrocoin ones, considering there only made for short term use really and not to still be around not 40 years later they done good job on them

Cheers Bods !
Wish I had a sandblasting set up like you would be much more efficient !
If I had the quantity would send off but working on multiple things at different stage and finishes so not worth it.
Tackling rust with a rust soak solution (biodegradable/ non harmful and reusable), wire drills tools, orbital for larger areas. Red oxide paint for pitted areas to improve top finish . Eelhoe (2 part)for any metal repair - deep pits , holes strengthning.
Can pretty much reuse all bolts after rust soak , then black oxide finish.
Looking at this speaker casing today. This is by far the easiest of 3. Probably only time in 30 years these speakers have been out ! Both work amazingly

I bought the Sandblasting stuff for doing cars parts too but I've found on any metal with pitting, how ever small sandblasting alone doesn't get rid of the rust and you need to dip it in rust removing liquid to get rid of it completely else few months on the car and it's all rusting again

Sandblast pitted metal and leave in home in summer and within a week you'll see rust spots again, if not pitted its fine once blasted and painted

That's the problem, unless you have enough to do at a time it's not worth taking to have sandblasted/Powder coated. Been watching guy restoring CRX and he's doing his own Powder coating too lol

Have some of those speakers in my cabs, the rampage has Hitachi ones, not sure without checking what Streetfighter has. Strangely the 2 Centi sold as Jamma Cabs only have 1 speaker yet they both have like a 6" one in them

So did all the Xenon have 2 speakers? or depends what game was in them like Centi and Goliath

Some of the speakers I've cleaned had so much dust in them and it's compacted it's deformed the rolled foam edge due to pressing on it so long

Every Xenon I have seen has 2 speakers. The build quality overall of the cabinets is good and pretty incredible how long most have lasted ( apart from the one left outside - RIP) seems to always be disjoin to fix where the cab has been dragged sideways . So many bodge repairs also..

The top section can unbolt from bottom also which is a nice feature.

So was Xenon sold as a premium cab over say Goliath as they didn't have 2 speakers either unless dedicated one like Street Fighter, unless more Xenon were sold as Dedicated, certainly seems it was go to cab with SF2 as think most SF2 Panels Ive seen are on these cabs

Wish I could find out what that other Bally Midway Centi i have was originally, only 1 speaker though

This is a common occurrence it seems both lay undetected . Looks like 2 replacements to be made now , might go the plywood route for strength. Weight of metal speaker section and glass caused ?

I am not sure what Electrocoin had in mind for the strategy /Market need for xenon? Maybe @_Matt_ could shed some Electrocoin knowledge /insight looks like the majority rolled out in 1990 from the inspection stickers I see.

Big Cabinet but a joy to sit at on a stool in front of imo.
If I have a spare control panel may do a one player six button set up in middle so I can enjoy a full central screen ! Long way from that sort of embellishment 😂 currently rust removin and coin door straightening from break ins ! Was going to ask @69er was it purely cash box motivated the heists or did game boards disappear too?

My original plan was 4 Goliath cabs, 2 Jamma, 2 Mame and I had started getting a few spare control panels I could swap out, now I have 4 Centi with the big control panels, I've an idea to take different approach to swapping panels with making some sort of modular system so I could have different button layout or twin joysticks, wish i could still have 4 Centi for Jamma/Mame but buying 2 dedicated messed the plan up, so I was going to have 2 for Jamma and 2 Dino king cabs for mame but then you think really I should have 2 proper size ones, will have to see how it goes when I get space sorted out

If the chipboard gets damp it doesn't take much to fall apart, maybe it's due to weight and if they been somewhere damp and you get condensation like my building when it was first done, pretty much airtight, soon as you opened door, everything glass would instantly mist up and water would run down the crts, glass and mirrors on walls i have, if the glass is above that wood and it happened like that maybe run down onto that section causing it so soak up water. looking at the metal close to it, that's quite rusty too so powder coat flaked off, which I would say is down to being in damp conditions

I'd say most of the break ins of cabs were money related, my first Jamma cab from tip had front smashed in which is why they chucked it, repaired it all
My Track & Field was broken in to when it was in the cafe for the money
1 of the Goliaths I had, front section had been replaced so assume that had been damaged due to money theft

Have any of your cabs got the metal plates that allow the control panel to just slide off instead of unscrewing it?

Very rare to have a machine damaged to get the boards except when we left otherwise partly wrecked ones outside the depot storage (end of life due to repeat damage or monitor/pcb failure)

Wooden doors could be replaced or remade to size and sprayed , some just needed a bit of car filler and a spray job.
Metal doors just got straightened , sprayed black and locks replaced and if the door edge got too stretched to get a fair repair or far too bent then we frequently kept back good spares or maybe used new door units as we had plenty back then .

More likely cabinets , as bods says too, had had fronts ripped open for coin boxes. Sadly to save getting bent up or lock prized cash doors we fitted “motorway bars” a heavy duty security device but on remote access sites the whole bar would get smashed out of the cabinet sides….

Quite often a break in was repaired on site and the machine would be ready for use by end of next day . Even if they were turned to face the wall while out of service nobody seemed to bother back doors for any parts? In leisure centres bowling alleys or other public access risky sites.

Other things suffered aside were the odd ouzi or two …. Both off a two gun beast buster and one off a mechanised attack and a full front deck off an op thunderbolt! Also the odd steering wheel off final lap 2 or chase hq got undone ! Boy racer theft - maybe they thought small rally steering wheels might fit their ford fiestas? Big shock when they realised the had a small hub with a woodruff hey not a splined centre? After mutilating their own motor to find out !!!

But if I recall the only time game boards went off site was the odd time the whole cabinet got stolen

Mark designed the pedestal jamma to include space at side of coin doors to accommodate a throttle pedal plus a slide off cp turntable monitor vertical to horizontal and front glass …. Even having a few special jamma looms made to add steering wheel / foot pedal ..

Helps if the cp is a metal one as it’s all in one to the game drawer base pretty basic mod ….. just undo the screwed hinge and lay on with an angle iron rail to hold it in place . Note a slight rebate is reqd on the front edge to allow room for sideways slide on and off . see picture below - the whole game drawer can slide out to mount different size pcbs too save getting into the rear when in a row against a wall .

Forever insightful to the arcade industry @69er , thanks for the reply much appreciated!
Straightened out the doors now , rust removed, sprayed and looks as good as new again. Have 2 xenon’s where the point of entry was straight through the laminated chipboard surround on coin doors then leave red the whole thing back.

Spare few hours so turned my attention to another Electrocoin cabinet today - Neo Geo 4 slot MVS.

First up control panel - tired cpo lifting in most places where it hasn’t already cracked and peeled off. The rust can be felt under it in places !

Scrape and orbital sand with 80grit for a while..

Countersunk the screws on catch locks so they don’t pop through new overlay. Added some nylon washers on other side and filled flush with some
JB weld.

The slide off control panel is a lovely feature as if you have a spare with a different configuration eg 6 button per player with a cps1/2 kick harness it’s an easy switch .

Neo Geo overlay time !
Did a finish coat on panel with a foam Roller and a light sand with wet and dry until mirror like finish ready to apply overlay. Done a fair few overlays in last few months, always a lot of double checking and measuring.
Fantastic quality overlays from arcade art shop @muddymusic on here.
Triple measure and clamped
Up.
