I actually have this available to me, initially the figures looked massive though compared to what we were looking at. Wondering if it may be an option at this point, but we've always owned and we don't swap cars every five minutes, we've had our current two 15 odd years which is why this probably hurts more than most 😬
To me the tax savings made it a no brainer, plus it is all inclusive so no insurance or maintenance or tyres to worry about.

I would be interested to know the stats for private vs company ownership of EVs. It seems to me lots of people have them as company cars because of the tax advantages etc, but I wonder how many people go out and actually buy and run one on their own money?

I would like one but because of the need for lots of space - fishing gear and two large dogs - there is no EV even close to my price range.

Removing spare wheels is more nonsense, came out one morning to a flat tyre on my Smax, they couldn't get out to me very quick so asked if I could inflate with Silicon, so I did, drove to local place for them to repair only to have new tyre fitted as the original is scrap once its filled with that stuff

BMW claimed they had an electric car in the early 90s with 300 mile range

only way an electric car will really work is if you only do short journeys, charge at home, preferably with Solar power setup, that's before insurance, depreciation etc
how much is your electric car worth after a year if bought new, at least if you have solar charging you wouldn't be completely stranded like those in Scotland last winter left without electricity for weeks, or you would at need a portable generator to charge your car, which means going back to fuel again and only worth getting one if your doing it for yourself and not thinking your saving the planet

Diesel was cheaper than petrol till more people had diesel and then price increased above petrol

Hybrid was free road tax till they changed to electric only, even Vauxhall Ampera didn't last, 1.4 petrol generator to charge battery and only running on electric wouldn't get free tax, they claimed that would do 234mpg, quite nice looking I thought too but cancelled due to poor sales:oops:

That was marketing guff though. It was about 40mpg.

It's the same with my Peugeot - you see them touting 250mpg and it's 100% nonsense. That's when you charge it off the wall and do a journey entirely in electric and the mpg calculation maxes-out at a made-up number (as you've used no fuel whatsoever). When the petrol engine is doing the work it's 30mpg around the doors, which is exactly what you'd expect from a 1.6Turbo and a 2 tonne car. The hybrid benefit is really just in those short journeys (and the performance/driveability).

I had a ride in the sister in laws E-tron a few weeks back & it certianly didn't feel like a 70K car prob about half the spec of my 10 year old GS4.
But overall a nice smooth ride.

I'm surprised at the number of people on a vintage gaming forum who drive newish cars. I thought they'd all drive old, interesting cars that were only going up in value.

Isn't buying a new sensible car the equivalent of paying full retail for the latest FIFA game? Yes, it's nice now, but It has a real value of zero, and it's getting there rapidly.

The last time we did an 'interesting car' poll, there were actually a lot of cool cars on here.

I used to drive the 180sx to work, but I quickly realised there'd be nothing left of it if I did it 5 days a week. It's just like old arcade stuff, cars get fragile, parts get unobtainable and you pretty much have to fix it yourself or you pay a fortune to a specialist. So it became my Friday car.
I'd have waited longer for my Peugeot to depreciate before I got it, but I thought I'd treat myself for once in life to something other than old circuit boards.

As a depreciating asset, a car is one of the few things it's worth leasing if you can get a good deal. Yes you're effectively paying the depreciation, but it should be offset by the warranty and servicing all being covered - and you get a nice new thing. If you do a shit ton of mileage it's probably worth buying used on a work horse. Having said that, I've got a new hybrid Ford Galaxy on a PCP, but it was 0% finance for 2 years and we had 4 kids with a newby on the way! £400 road tax stings though.

I bought my bro's 06 plate Vauxhall Astra off him for £1k back in 2015. Been solid ever since! Probably only worth about £500 but touch wood, has been really good to me!

I just got a new Audi Q8 etron. It's perfect for me. 300+ miles of range and big enough for a family of 4 a couple of dogs and a shit load of luggage.

Fkn hate the speed limit warning that there's no way to permanently disable and the lane departure system that where I live constantly seems to try and steer me into a hedge or a ditch

Other than that I love the future 😄

You can turn that shit off, just have to remember to do it each time which is a slight pita but I'm getting used to it. Purposely didn't spec active cruise control as I'd never use it. Self parking is pretty neat though

I Drive a Manual V8 Audi S5 that runs on high octane fuel, does 21mpg and costs £750 a year to tax, my toy is a Mk1 TT running 285bhp and a pain in the butt to work on but I love it, who cares about saving money, a car is to enjoy not to scrimp and scrape the pennies.
Finance is a scam, trust me I used to be a car dealer, it's for mugs and most warranties are a scam too.

My daughter is after a car as her med school placements in year 4 are so far away from where she lives.
I had a brief look for her.....I just cannot believe the current prices are still so crazy, despite being way over any impact the plandemic had.
My neice just got a VP Polo thats 10 years old with 85,000 miles on the clock, and that was 6 grand. I thought that they had seen her coming, but actualy that's a fair price in the current market.
