I know a few people are into dreamcasts so thought anything useful could be posted here.

Sega DreamCast VGA Display

Without spending S**loads of money I have tended to use this dreamcast to VGA Cable for my TV which has a VGA input, and been really impressed.

Dreamcast to VGA

Sega DreamCast HDMI Display Adaptor

Unfortunatley one of my TV's has no scart input but Kaico seem to have a newer HDMI cable out and I have been really impressed with it on my LCD TV.
You can switch between a VGA output or RGB upto your HDMI input.

USB C POWER SUPPLY FOR DREAMCAST.

I have had a few oddities with replacement power supplies before, now this is a bit pricey but seems the best USB C type on the market and runs cool. Also this newer version has a 5v fan rail which just happens to plug straight in to the fan I replaced with a noctua one.
It makes it a lot tidier.

I bought it direct from Robot_Retro where there is a video review too.

I am just using a HP laptop usb power supply so total cost for replacement was £48

Pico Power Supply for dreamcast Info.
I have had a few of these and would say are OK. Just fitted one today in another spare DC ! Its a bit overkill but I tend to cut the plastic strip across as shown below, a lot of people just remove it. It was really there just to stop the original power supply touching the metal case.

You really do need to use a decent power supply to I use the one pictured.

Silent FAN Mod

You can buy all this seperately would need 3d printed holder, bolt to go through fan top, the noctua fan and a convetor cable for fan cable (unless using the new USB C power supply , earlier in this thread). This dont seem a bad price is cant be bothered to hunt or print it all yourself ...

Fan and extras

I bought them seperatley as below...

i recently done the bios chip swap for the japanese cake one

thats a cool mod, gives you the dev kit boot screen too :)
Not seen anything about that will have a nose, cheers.
omg why have i never thought of this, i need to hit ebay for a lightgun and a copy of hotd now :)
Interestingly one thing I did learn is there is some kind of weird region setting on either the guns or the games and they are not compatible between regions.

i didnt have a dreamcast until fairly recently

seems a bit like other SEGA machines after the Mega Drive, just porting a lot of arcade games

but if you only ever play one game on it, Cannon Spike is fucking amazing

True, but it's all about the context.. which i'm sure you are aware of but seems lost on many retrospective reviewers.. especially when people compare XBOX to Dreamcast, when dreamcast was out 3 years before it! , usually the same ones that believe the dreamcast runs on windows ce, which it does not!

Imagine it's the late 1999 or 2000 and you are playing almost perfect (or sometimes improved) ports of arcade games like Crazy Taxi, Route 66, Ferrari 356, HOTD2, PowerStone,Marvel Vs Capcom.

then you pick up a copy of Shenmue or Phantasy star online .. mind blowing.

At that point the competition is playstation 1 and N64 which are a generation behind, well hardware wise at least.

Even a decent PC ( £2-3000) would struggle to match the performance as developers to had to support a range of devices with directx rather than focus on optimising for the powerVR in the dreamcast.
