Absolutely incredible work there, when you see that first picture from where you picked it up you'd never believe it could end up as nice as it has!

Can't wait to see what you tackle next

You’ve done a great job of restoring this, it really does look the mutts nuts.

I’ve enjoyed following this thread and now can’t wait to see this cab at revival. Top job Fraser well done.

Definitely one to be moved to the Restoration showcase forum! Awesome work. I really hope you enjoy playing the game now.

So is this a sit down cab without the seat or has the base of an upright been chopped?

Yeah - time to move to this thread to the showcase forum - incredible restoration.

Really hoping to get down to Revival to see this in the flesh and congratulate you in person.

Well done....

many people would have said the cab was only fit for landfill, you have proved them wrong,a few people will think twice now about what can and can't be saved.

This need to be in the restoration showcase and a clone of this thread here, otherwise how are people who are not members gonna see this fine restoration?

One of the best restorations I've seen in my short time in this hobby.
It just goes to show that you should never write off something if there's a slight chance of it being saved.

Top class.

No its not been chopped, its an original sit down.

As far as i can tell there are 3 types:

1- upright

2- sit down

3 - full DLX that (2huwman) has on here.

Mine is the sit down which we didn't realise existed till recently and it was hard to find a picture of on the net.

Previously in the thread i have made a base that fits under mine which does two things, allows me to move it around my workshop as i made it with wheels and also it brings the height up allowing it to be played without stooping down when the seat is away. The seat would get in my way if it was permanently attached. If you look at the speaker grilles below its easy to see the height difference.

Yes Sega made static sit-down variants of a number of their games of this era:

Space Harrier, Hang-On (never seen one in the UK though) and Enduro Racer. There's also a static but enclosed OutRun cockpit (Japan only).

Hi, so it’s been a few
weeks and Revival is in like 36 hours time so I thought I would do one final
update to this project. I have managed to complete the restoration of the seat
and those of you who are wanting to have a go can now do so sitting down!

Here we go...

IMG_2132_Custom.JPG

Its been upside down in water i think, well rotten and i'm not sure i can save the bolts.

IMG_2258_Custom.JPG

With heat and patience i managed to cut the nuts of and leave the bolts in tact, after i run the die on them, they were good enough for new nuts, result. Look at all the rust, its 2mm thick. After it hat it in my grit blaster, i was please to find enough strong metal to allow me to use the original brackets.

IMG_2259_Custom.JPG

Using my mop i gave the seat a little polish, no cracks anywhere which is good. I did the best i could. Looks presentable.

IMG_2319_Custom.JPG

This is going to be tricky... its totally rotted away. I will make a perfect replica.

IMG_2264_Custom.JPG

IMG_2272_Custom.JPG

IMG_2273_Custom.JPG

There has to be a gap around the outside so the
plastic seat only loads the centre brackets and not buckle the sides when there
is a person on. This was tricky to work out. All joints are screwed and glued.

IMG_2343_Custom.JPG

Several coats of filler primer and filler to hide the wood grain and any little blemishes, took ages.

Frame next.

IMG_2340_Custom.JPG

I had forgotten that the brackets that secure the frame to the machine were missing so i fabricated some.

IMG_2339_Custom.JPG

IMG_2345_Custom.JPG

Some welding and some black paint, a few new bolts and lock washers later and it was done.

IMG_2342_Custom.JPG

The frame was originally chrome but no one locally could do this for weeks so i settled for semi gloss black. Perhaps one day i will have it chrome again.

I cant put the stickers on as the paint is still wet! ill do that Saturday morning,

Couple of other things have been going on with the Enduro Racer in preparation for Revival. The first is the FREE PLAY option. When on Free play it continuously plays the credit music which although i think is cool, it will shortly upset some people. I took it back off free play and added a credit button. The other thing is that i have been worried that the public might place objects on the dashboard like keys, phones, beer, allsorts. During the restoration i replaced the lower part of the dash with a beautiful mirror finish black perspex, this will scratch really easily. I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone and make a nice montage of the restoration and cover the perspex with it.

IMG_2349_Custom.JPG

So this is it! it really is finished. I cant wait for you guys to play it, If you see me and Finley at Revival, come and say Hi and show me your skills, i haven't played it much at all, too much restoring going on.

That seat is a work of art! You should start a production line. This is one of the best restorations I've seen. Yu Suzuki should come and sign the machine!
