Hi, so it’s been a few
weeks and Revival is in like 36 hours time so I thought I would do one final
update to this project. I have managed to complete the restoration of the seat
and those of you who are wanting to have a go can now do so sitting down!
Here we go...
Its been upside down in water i think, well rotten and i'm not sure i can save the bolts.
With heat and patience i managed to cut the nuts of and leave the bolts in tact, after i run the die on them, they were good enough for new nuts, result. Look at all the rust, its 2mm thick. After it hat it in my grit blaster, i was please to find enough strong metal to allow me to use the original brackets.
Using my mop i gave the seat a little polish, no cracks anywhere which is good. I did the best i could. Looks presentable.
This is going to be tricky... its totally rotted away. I will make a perfect replica.
There has to be a gap around the outside so the
plastic seat only loads the centre brackets and not buckle the sides when there
is a person on. This was tricky to work out. All joints are screwed and glued.
Several coats of filler primer and filler to hide the wood grain and any little blemishes, took ages.
Frame next.
I had forgotten that the brackets that secure the frame to the machine were missing so i fabricated some.
Some welding and some black paint, a few new bolts and lock washers later and it was done.
The frame was originally chrome but no one locally could do this for weeks so i settled for semi gloss black. Perhaps one day i will have it chrome again.
I cant put the stickers on as the paint is still wet! ill do that Saturday morning,
Couple of other things have been going on with the Enduro Racer in preparation for Revival. The first is the FREE PLAY option. When on Free play it continuously plays the credit music which although i think is cool, it will shortly upset some people. I took it back off free play and added a credit button. The other thing is that i have been worried that the public might place objects on the dashboard like keys, phones, beer, allsorts. During the restoration i replaced the lower part of the dash with a beautiful mirror finish black perspex, this will scratch really easily. I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone and make a nice montage of the restoration and cover the perspex with it.
So this is it! it really is finished. I cant wait for you guys to play it, If you see me and Finley at Revival, come and say Hi and show me your skills, i haven't played it much at all, too much restoring going on.
