Those are great - they always used to switch up the artwork used between dedicated games didn't they? That Super artwork used for ST there. I got a Gamepro Magazine last month and it had a mini poster in for special champion edition on the Genesis (it's a US mag) but they used the dedicated art for SF2 Turbo on SFC

Kids of today have no idea of the excitement of going to the Video shop on a Friday night to get a recently released film and all sit down as a family to watch it, them next day the kids end up fighting who has to to ride up to the video shop at 100 MPH and get it back in time so you didn't get a 50p late fine.

Imagine going on Netflix now and clicking on a film and you get a message saying unlucky someone else is watching it wait your turn.

Nice!

Not sure whom needs / wants to hear this ... but rental tapes are better than the ones sold in the shops.

Of course ... that depends on how many people rented the rental tape ... but ... yeah! 😅
They were and cost about £70 to the rental shops, the tape quality was much better on them but not so good when they've been hammered in some cheap players though, some of mine play awful and that great memory of the rental shop which was magical at the time but that magic soon diminishes once you see the quality of the picture specially on a LCD lol

My brothers went to see Tron at cinema
I wasn’t allowed to go …
Still remeber how much that did my head in!!
Especially next day when they are talking about it!

Warner bros cartoons before the movie.

We had ice creams and hot nuts half time intervals at our local cinema..

And it was like you could hear the buzz
Of everyone talking about the film so far! Kids mimicking scenes they had only just watched! Scenes they would be mimicking in the playgrounds the next days weeks years !! Then the buzz of Ordering there ice creams on top of that excited about what is going to happen in the second half!
Then the lights go out again!

Silence please the movie is about to begin again!

Were VHS rental tapes actually better quality or just and urban Myth?

I believed the high price was just down to the limited production run costs, and of course creating the reason for the whole rental market to start off with.

Not the ones that had the macro vision. They were just good enough quality that if you copied they’d start flashing and the colours would pulse!

You see ... if ... like me ... you'd secured that sweet, sweet, Blockbuster junior role ... then you'd still have those pristine Star Wars rental tapes ;)

I dont think Macrovision had anything to do with the quality of the tape, it was anti copy protection and was also used on DVDs and set top boxes to prevent copying and recording.

It was included in the analogue signal on VHS and added to the analogue signal by processors in DVDs and STBs.

The signal was recorded at a level to make any slight degradation show the flashing colours, not the quality of the tape itself.

I don’t know either way on better physical media for rental but it would make sense given the amount of times they were going to be played.
