My first restoration; Initial D ver2

Well, I thought I'd start a thread with my adventures cleaning up my newly aquired Initial D 2 cabinet.
It's not really a restoration as such, but hey ho.....

After Alpha set up the deal

, and a mix up with the delivery which Martin sorted out, I'm now getting the cab ready to cane! It's in pretty decent shape to be honest, nothing major to do. But, as the electronics are currently untested, I may need some help getting things up an running.

I don't have any more before shots, just the one that Alpha got from the operator who sold the cabs.

I've cleaned the electronics externally and internally as they were caked with crud.
I work in IT fixing/maintaining a variety of POS/Computers/Printers, so I'm a great believer of preventative maintenance. Since I had no idea how long it's been sitting around, I didn't want to risk powering it up before cleaing.

I've also cleaned the externals, it was pretty dirty but nothing too dirty.
I have even more resepct for the guys who restore cabs in much worse condition.

It needs quite a few screws/fasteners.
I need a couple of stickers, I think I'll keep it as a Ver 2. All I need for now is a LH panel with artwork and the smaller Card reader sticker.

The next thing to do it service the pedals and steering wheel which I'll update later.

For now I'll think I'll leave the CF mod mate.
I've wanted an ID cab for a while, so once it's loaded into the Dimm the GDROM won't get used much, thats of course if the GDROM works.

Looks great mate, the white panels look very white which is a nice change as they're often more yellow than white after being in the sun/smoke.

You'll be playing a lot of initialD if you want to keep the game loaded into dimm. They need to be on for hours to fully charge the battery and even then the battery will only last a day or so..

Did you get a coin tower in the end?

Yeah, thankfully the sides are pretty white. The LH side does have a piece snapped off and a little discoloured patch though, I'm unsure how I would repair that if I go down that route. The easiest thing would to try and find a LH panel with the Ver 2 art already on, I'll have to speak to Simon to see if we can sort something out. I was gonna give him my RH panel as it seems pointless for both of us to have 1 half of ver2, but looking at the other stickers on my cab the easiest thing would be to keep mine as a ver2.

Oh, I didn't realise they don't hold a charge for long.
I have no idea how to go about making one, or how much they cost to buy, I've seen some official ones for over 200 quid but I don't think I want to pay that at this stage.

Well, I have a spare monitor chassis and N2 mobo/gdrom setup so I hopefully should get it all up and running fairly quickly.

Need to get a new steering pot as advised by JB as they usually need replacing

What's the symptoms of the steering pot going?
Is it an easy part to source?

a jiggered pot will throw you're steering out. they are easy to fit and calibrate.

If you got a bad pot, just spray some switch cleaner in there. I had to do one side of mt Scud after sitting in cabin after Winter. Wheel would move one way then throw up and error!

the problem with busted pots, is the carbon inside falls apart, it will also arc inside. for the cost of a new 1, bestest replace it. open up an old pot and watch the carbon fall out. that is the resistor.
