Is this the one that Martin was generous about even though someone was a massive arsehole about it?

Are you crazy???

"Someone" never causes any trouble, and is never a massive arsehole. They are a model arcade collector, and would never make any snide comments to keep things going, because they don't do that sort of thing. Only us troublemakers do that...apparently

I hope that is settled now

EDIT: Just in case anyone is re-reading this post, my comments above have nothing to do with the purchase of a certain cabinet because I know nothing about that. This is a comment related to the general behaviour of this person

That made no sense.

Edit, I think your play on this is starting to sink in after a few re-reads ;)

I'm just being sarcastic about "someone's" perception of themselves, and their own behaviour

I wasn't involved in whatever deal was done on that cab so have no idea of the details. I'm just posting some pics of what's been confirmed to appear, and not looking to get involved in any personal feuds, perhaps that's best dealt with elsewhere.

What I can tell you is that I spent the best part of a morning working on that ZX2000 cab, and after replacing the pcb, doing some work on the monitor chassis and some alterations to the loom it's now running 100%.

To answer your question relating to the show Purity, there may be other vector cabs but I can't say for certain yet as there's still a lot of work to be done on a few cabs, and as we all know vector stuff isn't exactly reliable.

That Punch-Out is a beauty, loved it when i was a kid, would love to be able to have another go but once again can't make the show - oh well, perhaps next year it will fall on my weekend off....

I'm glad some cockpit cabs are going to be there, it's part of the experience of the classic arcade, I think we all, as young children (those of us who were just about to hit double digits in 1980) used to run at those environmental cabs and sit in them and mess with the controls - it was like magic.

Every time I sit in my SW cab, i'm always impressed by how "real" the display is, like it's "floating" in mid air even though, having had it completely stripped down to nothing I know it's just behind a piece of tinted glass.

These big public events have the floor space to put a load of this type of machine in and i'm glad its being done. I wouldn't take my SW cab to any event while its where it is, it is just too much hassle to move but I applaud anyone brave enough to take one to the show as i'm usually the mad-ass that doesn't care.

If you'll permit a piece of advice, make sure the bumpers on the yoke are good, every one of my dedicated controls cabs has had to have an overhaul on its controls since NERG. SHO had gotten sticky and unresponsive, I had to fix a sheered pot on After Burner, Space Harrier is needing mechanical overhaul as it's not as smooth as it was although plays perfectly well and OutRun i've had to do some spring magic on, RoadBlasters needed new buttons and a new spring and the pedal needed resetting again. Pole Position needed greasing up and pedal cleaning/lubing as people pull backwards on the wheel and stamp on the pedal - I don't post "every" repair log, if I did and said they were all post XXX event, i'm sure it would put some people off loaning machines.

Sadly, while the projected number is 16,000-20,000 visitors over the 2 days, you don't have that number in arcade collectors - you've got 99% joe-public who will SLAM the controls around as unfortunately in my experience i've found that the habits of the general public from the 80's haven't gone away and there's a lot of smashy-smashy attitude towards the controls.

Myself and cmonkey spent time investigating the controls on After Burner during the saturday and couldn't believe that somehow the horizontal pot had sheared the shaft off. We looked to our left at Space Harrier and probably found the culprit whacking the controls to the left and right.

That's a very level headed post RGP.

I'm donating my beloved Pac-Land cab to the event and I can't say that I'm not nervous about doing so. Admittedly it only has 6 buttons that the ham-fisted, non-classic-cab-appreciative, folk can damage but it will still be a nervous 2 days for me. I can't help but think that some scrawny little 10 year old kid who's been dragged up rather than brought up to respect other people's possessions will play the game, lose a life that he believes is unfair, and then give the cab a good hard kick in retaliation. Maybe I'm being over dramatic but I saw similar actions at last years Play, so I know that it goes on. I'd never donate my Out Run in a million years, I've spent too much time and effort making it perfect to ever consider that.

What's needed is an event that's only open to arcade collectors. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we already have one of those every few months at the Lair!
smiley36.gif

I was in 2 minds about donating Pac-Land but if it weren't for cab donators then there'd be no arcades at these events. I'm sure it'll all be fine and I'm worrying over nothing......

Someone convince me......Please.........

oh and to add. My Getaway pin is going to the NLP guys and my jamma cab may appear on the cab side of things. There will be no Spy Hunter though (however I am slowly making a supergun setup that will run the pcbs so fixing them could soon become possible

That very reason was one of the main drivers behind me deciding to take it!!! I'd better get some practice in instead of wasting time reversing the game in every spare moment

You'll have the advantage as I've never played it buttons only. May have to dig out my pcb and change the adapter

That was exactly my thoughts on it, if no one donated then the events wouldn't go ahead, I must admit if the events were 100% only for arcade enthusiasts then I would feel better, as it stands the machines were designed to take a hammering & some people have donated what looks like their entire cab collections so hats off to them

The more delicate and valuable cabs will be placed in a prime viewing location so they can be kept an eye on, but I also can't say I'm not worried about the pounding they may take.
I do try and remind myself that 8+ solid hours of general public abuse is what they were made for, but that doesn't really help
smiley36.gif

I've worked hard to get the cabs in my collection as tidy as I can and I'm taking them all, If I see some people enjoying a game, or reminiscing about the golden arcade days and taking pics I guess that'll do just fine
