The famous quote from the film "Jaws" springs to mind, in this case "we gotta get a bigger BASEMENT" !!!

Yes, as you are down there already it is only 'horizontal work' required!!

I love looking at all your photos Les.
Yes, I'm envious - but I'm more happy that someone such as yourself has such a fantastic space + outstanding machines.

If one day I ever win lots on the lotto, I'd move house only to do something like you've done :)

..and I've already started inquiries about extending my basement...the house needs work done anyway :)

I really enjoy taking the photos, never took any notice of the cabinets set back in the day, Cheers Les

Hi Les - some of the games you have like Q*bert for example, look near to new/mint condition so how do you get such quality stock, do you source from the USA or what is your secret, do you just wait until the right cab comes on the market, do you use Ebay too?

Regards

Mark

Its patience more than anything, I've bought some great games in fantastic condition of Ebay in the past. Most of the good stuff I have got from leads on here through fellow collectors. The true collector quality games will only go up in value, it will be interesting to see what happens to prices when Ready Player one comes out in 2018.

Les - admit it, you have a time machine! :)

You really think that a film will have such a big impact on cab prices?

If it did - would you sell?

I hate to see vastly over-inflated prices, as those buying at silly prices are very rarely honest and real fans of the VAC scene.

One thing is true. Buying a decent cab isn't a waste of money. If you spend a fortune on a Nintendo Switch, it's fun and all - but it's money mostly down the drain.

Buy a decent cab, do some repairs etc if needed - it'll only go up in value. It's what I keep saying to the missus :)

Hi Les,

I think of it like a classic car collection; the right arcade cab in the right condition with the right history and relative rarity will always be a good investment and should never lose value if maintained well.

I think looking at the prices in
America which have risen over the past two years, they are only going to go in
one direction. Kids who used to go to arcades in the 70's-80's are now at the
point in life where they may have spare cash due to mortgages been paid off
inheritance etc.

We have had movies what have tried and
show gaming BITD such as Tron, Pixels, Wreck it Ralph etc but none have really
shown the intensity of the whole arcade scene, to the point that someone who was
not there would understand. Will Ready Player One who knows but the book is a
great read and if the film is true to this I think it will reignite a lot of
the interest.

Console gaming has evolved into games
that take days to get a grip with and weeks to solve and I personally struggle
to find the time and interest to invest in them, there's something to be said
about getting your arse kicked in two minutes on a game that was designed in
the early 80's.

Would I sell up only if I needed the
money but it is nice to have a hobby that grows in value, that’s uber cool and
great fun. The increasing value
certainly keep Mrs P off my back when purchases are made….

Nice pickups, a bit of white vinegar and a light sanding on those battery contacts and they should be good as new.

Although why would anyone have 2 Jousts...?

Actually me too, one US & one Euro

Hope those batteries didn't cause any damage Les, machines look in very good nick

They didn't I have a few spare Defender boards so I desoldered and fitted a battery holder from one of them. The rest of the board was perfect. The machine on the left has a ROM 2 problem, Dave Langley is going to take a look at that for me.
