Forgive me if this is answered somewhere in these many many of posts (I am sure it is)...

...but what is the estimated price for this device (shipped to the U.S.)?

Thanks!

No estimated price has been announced yet, so you've not missed anything. Martin mentioned in the Facebook thread in the Outrun group, he is still working final details and that would come in the next big update most likely.

Awesome product! I'd love to buy a couple but I'm happy to start with 1 for my Outrun.
Besides the uprights I've got 5 of the games in DLX so would love to buy those SmartyPi's down the road.

...will MAME save states work?

I've no reason to think there will be an issue with MAME save states but I haven't tried this. You'd have to have a keyboard connected somewhere which is not something I'm looking to do.

Evening all.

December 2021 update.

As planned, I had a batch of 30 PCB's arrive today. I've populated one and can happily say its working OK. This is the final PCB design that will soon be available.

In reality this board is the same design as all previous version with exception that I have now added the micro SD card onto the main PCB, instead of needing the Chinese microSD adapter and a Molex branded connector to make it work.

Since the last update I've also found some nylon mounting hardware screws that hold the Pi in place along with any game adapter that is connected, these are much more secure that the original mounting studs that I was using.

I have also designed a small PCB that is used as an Extender to reach the original mounting positions of the Out Run board. All current SmartyPi owners have had to drill a couple of holes to match the footprint of the where the Out Run PCB is larger. Anyway this is no longer the case as you can see in one of the photos. Two of these will be included with each SmartyPi board.

I will start an interest/sale thread in the sale forum soon with a reminder of product details and pricing etc.

I expect my capacity will be approx. 5 boards per week in terms of testing, packing, and organising shipping. I also plan for the 1st 10 or so boards to ship to the UK only. I just want to make sure the out of box experience works as planned and there's no teething issues that will cause issues for me and buyers, shipping to non UK addresses isn't straightforward, with customs forms for me to complete and possible import tax/VAT when they arrive in EU/Rest of world.

At this point I expect the following to be for sale from the off.

SmartyPi main PCB - Built-in support for Out Run (inc.Turbo) Upright & Midi cabs.

Game adapter for Power Drift - Connect SmartyPi to an Upright Power Drift cabinet.

Game adapter for Hang-On (inc. Super) - Connect SmartyPi to Upright Hang-On/Super variants.

The future list still sits as the following.

Game adapter for Space Harrier - Connects to SmartyPi main PCB. Confirmed as working but needs thorough testing.

Game adapter for Enduro Racer - Connects to SmartyPi main PCB. Confirmed as working but needs thorough testing.

Game adapter for After Burner / Thunder Blade - Connects to SmartyPi main PCB. Confirmed as working but needs thorough testing.

Sounds Great. If we are looking for a board for an Afterburner etc, is it best to order the main board on release and then buy the adaptor later or wait until the adaptors for said game are available before buying as one set?

Brilliant news. Can’t wait to get one. Hopefully I clock your next post with ordering info quickly enough so i can get one of the first batch.

I will be allocating a small amount of boards form this batch to enable testing of the other game adapters.

If we've already had pm discussions about SmartyPi, you are already on my list and you will get dibs in the sale forum when I make a post. I'd like to think that the majority will go to Out Run owners who will put them in cabs to play.

Once the balls rolling on the Out Run setups, testing of these other games adapters should be quick. I just like to get them tested in multiple cabs which hasn't been proved yet, I know they do work.

Looks like I rejoined ukvac at just the right time - finally retrieved my cabs from storage after moving 3 years ago and getting around to sorting them out at the moment. The outrun sitdown deluxe could definitely benefit from a modern board replacement so if I can be added to the list that would be great.

To any that remember my face, hi and hope you're all keeping well.

Here's an example of the PCB extenders and how they will work. It also gives scope to stack a SmartyPi board on top of an original PCB if you added some extra mounting posts and longer screws.

Do you know if Gloc would be an option on the afterburner/thunderblade setup? I'd like one of these for each of my sega cabs if possible including Gloc.

Thanks,

Robert
