Also great to hear we had more new faces from ukvac and the arcade scene say they came - next time we'll have to get ukvac badges made (like the scs'12 pin badges) so at least we can spot whose who!!!!

Had a great time! Friday night was a bit rocky for me due to it taking nearly two hours longer than it should have done to get there - bloody tourists!! But Saturday was fantastic and today weren't bad either!

Steve Ritchie turned out to be a top bloke even if he couldn't hear a word you were saying. He was happy to share a drink and come and sign all my Black Knight 2000 goodies - including the pinball.

Shame the Star Wars Cockpit was not to be - especially after the effort of getting the board set working, but when the monitor started to crap out too, that was that. Whilst it's obviously possible, an event hall, dimly lit with multi-coloured lights and full of the public (including kids) was not the place for me to go scrounge a soldering iron and start removing monitor PCBs, especially given there wouldn't have been spare parts there. More damage would have been done than good in the long run.

My favorite videogames of the show: Gravitar. played it quite a lot already when I was working on Erik's machine and at Funspot, but man I love it more and more I play it. Such an elegant game.....no button bashing but control..,,it's all about control.....

we had a good game of doubles there. nice to meet you.

Yeah was nice to share a game, sorry I didn't properly introduce myself but glad to find you here !

I need a totally dark and silent place, no phone, no kid/wife to distract and then I can get a bit decent score...

You are obviously much better at it then I am, I just "cheat" ;)

Was the Sunday as busy as the Saturday? Last year went on the sunday and it was much easier to get on the pin balls than this year when I went on Saturday, in the end I left without having ad a chance to go on mst of the machines I wanted to,although I was able to play the videos to death!

Think the idea of ukvac badges is a good one as you never know who you are standing next to, and perhaps the high sore comp could be improved by letting you havev2 goes on each machine as its hard to gets good score when you haven't played a machine for 30 years, although clearly some were much better than others at it.

All in all, I think it was a great show, in danger of outgrowing the venue though, which would be. Shame as the set up of a main room, competition room, and bar works very well. Well done pall who organised it, hopefully it will return next year

Yeah me having a look didn't help much either ;) Didn't know you had checked it before so I asked Oll if he knew the owner and if it was OK to have a quick look.

Bit of a shame because I could have brought my 100% running spare PCB set and my deflection and HV boards to have 100% reliable running SW.....I did miss the extra ventilator, it is REALLy necessary to keep it happy and I would move the HV board to the original position so you can cool both boards with 1 fan.

I noticed it's one of those repro HV boards from a couple of years ago, didn't these have some kind of structural problem ?

I didn't hear any deflection chatter going on, and one of the LEDs stayed on on the PCB set, I think it's a PCB set problem but who knows, I just had a very quick look....was it playing blind ? I didn't check that because my own machine is set to free play and it will say "The force will be with you" right on power-up because of that, but maybe this was still on credits ?

Wooooppps, I'm derailing the thread sorry !!! (P.S. nice meeting you !)

Man, there's only so much you can do, I totally recognize the situation from Eurocade....by the way I seriously hope to see some of you guys over here for the 2012 edition of Eurocade on september 1.

It's only a 3 hour drive from Calais...

Expect about the same amount of video games but much less pins....it's a bit more intimate and we have a 100% game(sound)-less bar area with plenty of seats ;)

20 Euro entry and that includes lunch and dinner :)

PM me for info/registration !

I would love to but Dover is a 6 hour drive for me on a good day and I also just started a new job so don't have much holiday to take this year, so it isn't going to be this year. It would be good to get back over to Europe at some point though - I spent loads of time over there in 2001 - 2005 pillaging machines and bringing them back it would be nice to go over to just play some

"Organisers say this may be the last South Coast Slam"?!?

I'm sure not... That's just a gut reaction mid-setting up in the turmoil! Still.. I might feel different after shifting 22.5 tonnes of stuff back to RKD today lol!

The place was heaving and turned a £3K profit (for charity of course). How can it not run next year. Unless of course those with the games and those involved in setting this one up aren't able to do it.

Steve,

If you had come up and said Hi and mentioned the Juno I would have got you a go or 5 on it whether it was in the Tournament or not!
smiley2.gif

You guys should have all come and said hello. Also you guys should have queried the Tournament Play thing. First thing I would have said is, "Will they be available later on?", to which a reply should have settled most fears.

That being said though, yes I totally agree the list of machine reserved for those 5 hours on the Saturday SHOULD have been posted and advertised in advance - no question about that. But the Vid Tournament was such a last minute rush and was only put in due to the massive efforts of D-Type (Phil) that it kind of happened how it did. Plus the obscure stuff went in mixed with a little of the normal games to make sure competition was kept fierce.

We had so many rush fixes to get some games that had been working fine, then just suddenly not work either prior to the pickup or after they arrived at the event it was quite depressing! Luckily the only games that in the end didn't make it was the Robotron, which was at the event but the monitor pooped, and the Food Fight, which due to unforeseen circumstances didn't fit on the last 7.5 tonne load from RKD to the event - and it didn't make financial sense to split 2 loads into 3 at that time (diesel was about £100 for the round trip), plus we phoned around and couldn't get anyone to take it (my car was already full with my DK Jnr).

Keep the comments coming though guys, as once Will has got over the stress of this years 'Slam i'm sure they will be another next year and we can incorporate any comments or recommendations to make it better, fairer and have any Tournament games noted well in advance with times when they are available to all.

Hopefully more machines being pledged by members can also allow some games to stay cornered off in the Tournament area whilst the same games exist in the general line up also. At the very worst we can ensure that if any games do get cornered off we can be clear well in advance of the event as when the best times are to turn up for people wanting access to ALL games without the fear of any tournaments.

Anyhow, hope you all got to play some games. I have had 4 casualties, although 3 died near the end of the Sunday, only the Blaster dying late Saturday night.

I hope you all got to play some of the weirder and unsual games, as Blaster wasn't in the tournament row.

Thanks guys and Game On, or something
