Thanks everyone. If it doesn't ever work, then it's a pretty (double) beer-mat anyway.

Hmm, I didn't notice the track aerial or the little wobbles when I routed in those extra jumpers (ruining your nice polygon).

Heh - found one PCB manufacturing mistake - they’ve made me 6 instead of 5

I stuffed up worse though - missed a few bits off my parts order, so will sort that tonight. A few weeks to test it, I reckon (acquiring odds and sods to do it).John Bennett2018-07-06 17:13:47

This feels so close now I can almost taste it! - that proto PCB looks so..clean - normally they get coated in dirt and gunk (and are dead of course)

I kind of expected what it would look like, but seeing the photos of a brand spanking new old board just looks amazing!

So glad we went down the forgery route

.

Is everyone OK with socketing the ICs? Barely adds to the cost.

Should be okay, even if the sockets eventually go bad there aren't that many devices to re-seat :)

Cool,Well done guys. Sounds about right and you got lucky.

They will often make extras to cover any manufacturing defects and so avoiding another run. Quality looks fine too judging from the photo's.

I was just checking the photos of the actual board vs my spare I've been working from.

What do you think to the connections in the 5v rails? Same problem as the thermal reliefs in the high power section? And makes some of the rails very thin at points. does anyone think it might be a problem?

The only, barely obvious, flaw in the boards is slight skewing of the silkscreen, so very happy (thanks again for the tip, Colin). If the board works, then I might as well stick with them for v1.1. Could change the playing or do 2oz copper, but feels unnecessary.

Regarding the thermal relief - it was actually a conscious decision to use them for the logic section, as the current is low and it makes (de)soldering easier. But we could just flood them for v1.1 - it’s all socketed, so changing devices won’t involve desoldering.
