Hi Andy, I'd be interested in seeing a video of the sand blasting process when you do it. Is it difficult to do? Is it expensive kit or can you get it reasonably?

Will do Dan, still need to get some sand. It's very easy, the gun cost me about £20 from machine mart, all then needed is a bag of block paving sand (silica sand) and something to catch the flying grains. I found a big plastic storage box and a broken bezel works for me

Bit more done as thanks to that nice man, Paulcan69, I now have some sand, cheers matey

Unfortunately no video, as I cant put my camera any where near as the sand is flying, so pics will have to do, sorry Dan.

You need a bag a Kiln dried sand otherwise the gun clogs up @ £4 from Wickes or equivalent

Then you need a small gun blaster from various places for about £20

Then you need a decent size compressor, no pic but you know what one is

Two complete coin collection assemblies, coin boxes, doors, mechs, frames, chutes etc (earlier pic, hadn't stripped 2nd door yet)

First up rusty things..

Also found a use for the knackered bezel, last one is frosted

stops most of the deflected sand but after a couple of hours, visibility is getting poorer.

After about an hour we have...

Did the mechs, frames, 1 coin door, 2 Asty marquee rails and a Taito CP bar before I 'd had enough as it started bloody raining, typical

Have spray paint already lined up but its hard work getting a decent finish in this weather plus the wind takes 1/2 the can away and coats everything in its path.

I would highly recommend some form of respirator when shot blasting.

Here is a quote from wikipedia -

"Silica sand is the most commonly used type of mineral abrasive. It tends to break up quickly, creating large quantities of dust, exposing the operator to the potential development of silicosis, a debilitating lung disease. To counter this hazard, silica sand for blasting is often coated with resins to control the dust. Using silica as an abrasive is not allowed in Germany, Britain, Sweden or Belgium for this reason."

Have a mask on and H & S doesn't apply in the home. I was told this by a H & S officer when asking about ladders

A little bit of progress, need some greys so will have to wait.

All black metalwork is now black

All of the coin doors and frame are primed and ready for top coat

(I need a coinbox door)

Both Coinboxes are primed and ready, might do them black internally, saves on the grey

Took them into work as weather was crap, nice warm boiler room to dry off

Does the Braze kit work with the Space Invaders Part II? On the site it says that it's only for the L shaped board sets (B/W versions)

Loving the work so far :)

I'm pretty certain it works, the biggest issue being the space between the 3 PCBs in the stack. IIRC the processor is facing inside the stack somewhere rather than outside :-

Hi dude,

What spec compressor are you using to power your shot blaster? I've got access to one of these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/se16c150-air-compressor in my bro's garage so I figure that ought to be good enough. It's a 150l tank, 14 CFM flow and max 10bar pressure so I'm hoping it'll be sufficient - if not I'm going to use rocket motor blasting :) Any cop?

Are you using a wooden box as your enclosure? I've been looking at proper sealed/gloved enclosures as there's likely to be a fair bit of blasting coming up but popping a few hundred quid on an enclosure which won't be used that often is a bit meh.

On the other hand, I don't want to inadvertently wreck 5k of big block V8s that are also in the garage

Bloody hell, its Tim

Yes mate, that compressor will be fine and I am using a plastic storage container and a Space Invaders Pt 2 bezel. Honestly, I would make something out of 2x2 and polythene, for the bits you want to do, it would make life easier and would only cost about £30

Andy.
