Time Pilot bootleg - rom trouble

I have a non-working Time Pilot bootleg and have a bit of a problem in that one of the eproms is blank. I've checked the other eproms and some match up with Mame dumped roms, and some do not. I'm not sure if this set hasn't been dumped or if they are iffy.

Does anyone have a similar board to this? I can't see any obvious markings for who made it.

is it completely dead?,if so I doubt it's an eprom issue, most boards will at least boot to something, even with 1 eprom removed

No it isn't dead, it boots to garbage and reguarly resets (I think). Occasional garbage sounds as well.

I just know one of the eproms is blank so can't be right.

Great! Do you have the ability to read the eproms? Would you mind reading the one in my picture which doesn't have a label on?

Out of interest have you ever compared the roms to the Mame sets? The ones in my pic with a blank label do not match any in Mame...I'm unsure if that's as they are not in Mame, or if the roms are corrupt.

Have you checked against the space pilot roms in mame?

That one is a time pilot bootleg.

Yeah, I ran it through this which checks it against all the known dumps:

http://www.arcaderestoration.com/RomIdentification.aspx

The thing with bootlegs is they can contain slight variances in code-just a few bytes here and there that doesn't stop them from working but will not match any roms in mame.

If I was you I would try burning the space pilot roms to a spare set of eproms and try them to see if they work.

I think I considered that a while ago but couldn't be sure which roms went where on my board, since the positions are different.

That's brilliant, thanks very much for going to the trouble of dumping the roms.

Bummer about rom 1, but I'm sure you are right about tm1-7. My board has tm6 & tm7 already so will try programming tm1-5 and see what happens...

Thanks again!

Ok then...I think the roms are working. I can see test grid and title screen (both with alternate missing/grey lines) and then it resets. I'm pretty confident the roms are ok, but the board has other faults.

I'm looking to get rid of the board so if anyone is interested in it for spares or repair then let me know.
