Abandoned Cab/Cabs in Wiltshire Area

There's a major difference between something that is wanted versus abandoned dude. I think you're getting your knickers in a twist over a clear misclassification on your behalf.

It's hanging off the back of a wagon, come winter it's f**ked once it rains and snows and the thing is a soggy mess. The cars are fine in that situation. To add another angle the kids are going to f**k it all up soon anyway from the sounds of it. You're saving it not stealing it.

This is the classic Sundace thread situation. Some people won't see it this way, others will.

If I was closer and could be arsed, I would take it. I'd even leave a little note in the event that the machine was wanted with my contact details in a waterproof jacket on the inside of the wagon.

At the end of the day, as previously said, come October'ish, I can almost guarantee it will be a soggy mess and no owner will ever turn up. If it hasn't already been vandalised.

If someone is trying to legitimately contact the owner - then they should say to stop the prospectors.

There is going to be a difference of opinion on this.

In situations like this, personally, I would prefer to speak to the owner and try and work something out if possible, because it wouldn't feel right without that permission.

As I've previously said I'm happy to supply location details if someone wants to do some detective work. As Rob said, it's not really a cab I'm particular bothered about and we don't know how long it has been there or what state it is in. Someone may have even removed the board and monitor already!

Well this is fun, I'd missed this thread.

I would suggest at least contacting the land registry to see if there is a new registered owner if this hasn't already been tried. Additionally, the mini depending on the age and assuming it's salvagable is probably worth somewhat more than the SS in the current market and it will most certainly will disintegrate if left out in the open too long, just not quite as quick as the cabs

I don't think it's a misclassification who is to determine abandoned vs put somewhere out of the way?

The fact that it's inside an artic trailer albeit now damaged leads me to believe someone was looking out for the machine and wanted to keep it stored safely.

The cab was moved to the edge of the trailer where it is in the photo to obtain a better photo.

The land was bought (probably for a large sum of money) from the MOD and is still owned by someone ergo the property contained on the land is also owned by someone.

Cars rust when left outside especially old Minis which rust for fun I know I've had three of them so that needs saving too.

Sadly it's totally possible that it could get vandalised but the site is
pretty remote so that's in it's favour but that's not to say some older morons with access to scooters might
not also smash it up.

I agree it will get damaged once the weather turns so all the more reason to legitimately find out the ownership situation and go and get it legally.

I just think going and taking it is not the right approach but if you want it go and get it it's in Salisbury so you are close by.

It just needs to be someones dream cab, try and find the owner of the land, express interest in it and see if you can have it or buy it. Unless you know the full story behind the land and whats on there, how do you know that the owner doesn't want the stuff that is there

should of done the same myself, but I read the site was supposed to be developed soon with new houses in kirkcaldy and the machine was left there to rot so who ever owned the land clearly didn't want else it would of been removed before it was smashed up and left to the elements. I didn't take it to sell on at a profit, It was purely to save a very rare cab that I've not seen in anyone elses collections, also one I liked the look off when downloading mame and all the cab pics, the gun on the front of cabs gets my attention and with another gun coming up for sale for the machine it was a shame not to rescue it

wasn't difficult site to access though it did have fences up, but not fixed ones and someone had already pulled one over so I could pop straight in and wander round, plenty others been there before me too so not too much of a risk but I wouldn't of done it on an Ex MOD site without asking first

I know there aren't loads of these machines about but most people that wanted one have been able to buy them over the years as quite a few have been for sale, so it's not an ultra rare machine never seen before like mine with the only reference picture being the Flyer so far, it's a different story really

Also would be a great shame for someone to just go in and rob the parts from it to ebay or just because they can, you want to see the whole machine saved buy someone that wants to keep it and restore it, can't remember anyone lately saying I'm after a Super Sprint 3 player and will do anything to get one it's my Dream Cab which is a shame

Some will have anything if it's free, even if they didn't really want the game

I think the point is that if you do take it it's probably not wise to say you have and post about it on a public form - hence Olls "Sundance" quote. The back story on that is too long to relate, suffice to say it was a similar situation in the US that went very pear shaped...

I can see both sides of this, but wire fencing, boulders and barbed wire say to me "KEEP OUT".

If the location was literally in the middle of a field in the middle of nowhere, I'd probably go in and nab the stuff. But crawling through a hole in a fence shows intent. If challenged, you can hardly say "oh I stumbled across them".

It's highly likely the owner would let them go for nothing if asked, but I would imagine he'd be pissed off if he found anyone on his property helping themselves.

It's a tough one morally - very similar to the Sundance story.

I'm surprised how little interest there is in Super Sprint / Championship Sprint actually.

Sure it's just digital Scalextric I suppose, but they were both fun titles that I enjoyed playing as a kid years ago, and other than Ironman Offroad Racer I can't think of many other cabs since that had 3 steering wheels jammed into the front. Maybe BadLands.
This seems to have all 3 wheels intact, side-art there, and at least the monitor cover in place (bodes well for an intact monitor within?). Even if the base is toast, there must be some value historically in saving it.

I'd be up for looking into making a rescue, if somehow it's possible to trace the landowner. I'll even be willing to throw a few rocks around to see if any landmines go off
