It has been a long time in the works, but now that I'm finally done I am very happy to welcome you to

ARCH'S ARCADE

Yey!

I am at a point now where all machines are in their place, working and playing, so I thought it would be a good time to document a bit. This is surely not the final lineup for the arcade, as I am currently restoring other games that will make their way in here eventually. I have room for two or three more cabs depending on size. The current lineup is Donkey Kong, Egret II playing Raiden, Stargate with JROK, Model Racing Mini with Arkanoid, Compugame playing Bubble Bobble, Outrun Mini and Centipede Cabaret.

As you will notice, the walls are pretty empty. I have bought some posters from Muddy to amend this, but I am still waiting for my local IKEA to restock on the frames I want for them.

The game room is situated on the fourth floor in a building without an elevator, so dragging each and every one of these cabs up the stairs have contributed to my increasingly bad back. One should not complain though - at least there isn't a giant gorilla throwing barrels at me at the top of those stairs.

The Outrun came right out of storage and is the one machine that will need the most TLC. It lacks one of the leg levellers, so it is currently standing on a book. Does anybody have a spare leg leveller for sale?

The Egret II does not really fit into the classic lineup, so I consider it to be a placeholder for now. Once I have some other cabs ready, I will move it to another room.

Taito goodness! Two of my favourite games here. Arkanoid and Bubble Bobble! The Compugame cab runs a dual setup with both a MAME computer and a JAMMA harness. The Bubble Bobble is an original board. I did a small writeup on the Model Racing Mini Arkanoid as the first post in this thread, and you can read that post below.

That's it! I will post more pictures and updates shortly.

Below is the first post I did in this thread:

I want to start a thread here to document my collection. As it happens, I will be moving house in the next few months so most of my cabs are in storage transit, but at least I managed to wrap up one of my projects the other day.

I have had this sexy little Italian universal cabaret cabinet from Model Racing sitting in my basement for three years, and last year I started collecting parts to make it a permanent Arkanoid setup. Took a while, as the spinner for instance is made up of parts from three non-working ones.

The cab is really tiny, but it still houses a 19" monitor which is the perfect size for the game I think.

I've made some slight modifications to the look of the cab (in addition to the obvious CP hack), where the bezel has gone from Italo-disco-style all-over-the-place-"design" to pure black, and the T-molding is white instead of silver. I couldn't find proper silver, and I think white looks better anyway. It makes it a bit Nintendo'ish in my opinion.

I might go with white 1- and 2-players buttons with guys on them eventually. I have them lying about somewhere, but I can't find them at the moment and red works as well. Hope you like it even if it is not a dedicated. It plays like a dream!

The coin door lights say 10P., which means that this little thing has been in the UK before it came to Norway. Go figure.

Note the ashtray to the right. Sadly - or not - I don't have use for that anymore.

Whoa! I finally picked up the keys to my new place! For the first time I will have a dedicated games room. The room is not very big, but it has no windows and according to Google Sketchup I will be able to fit seven cabs in there - which I think is a good number really. On one hand it will force me to make some harsh choices as to which games will go in there, but on the other hand it might help to keep my collecting on a healthy level. Yeah, yeah, I hear you...

This weekend I had some mates help me bring in the cabs I had in my old flat. This allowed me to perform the all-important test which I have spent nights awake thinking of. If this should fail, the move would all be for nothing, my social life would crumble and I would once more find myself sitting in a living room full of cabs.

The ass-to-ass test!

Test passed!

Both me and my friend Michael agreed that this room will provide an atmosphere of great arcade intimacy and atmosphere without being too cramped.

I have a long way to go when it comes to refurbishing this room. I will be starting on the electricity and painting next week, and I will post some pictures here as I progress.

Cheers,

Arch

We have powah in the gameroom!

Several months down the road from the last update, Arch's Arcade has been fully renovated and fitted with electricity. I have installed a new 16A circuit with sockets that turn on and off with the flick of a switch. This means that there will be some updates to this thread over the coming weeks! Yey!
