My view from work today, not a bad one! Currently renewing a slate roof. All the materials are on the job and I'm four stories up in with nobody to disturb me

Steady away in this weather.

Fantastic pic Itruk. Bet those beaches are a little busier on Sunday!

It wouldn't surprise me if they had the police about to enforce the whole distancing thing! They patrol the prom each hour.

Lovely View that
smiley1.gif
sooner you up there taking that photo than me, I used to go on roofs when I was younger but never been that good with heights, not keen on it now though at all

I've seen a few sites over the last 2 days working. Change of Scenery Sat while other guy finishing his last day of self isolation, Asked him if he thinks he had Virus, Coughing, sore throat and runny nose. along with the rest of his family so probably just normal cold

To be honest I think a lot of people have just got a normal cold or it may just affect some people as normal cold, end of day he had to let company know and with current guidelines and stay off so I was working in Stoke, Manchester and Liverpool, get fed up of same places every weekend anyway

Stoke.... Wow what on earth is wrong with people in the area I was at, just one part of stoke, old guy 60 at least walking around with shopping bags picking up litter, normally you could commend people for trying to keep area nice but what is he thinking, specially when he's got no tools or PPE, just wandering around picking it all up with his hands and not even gloves on

Old guy walking up the road about 85-90 at a guess, people walking straight passed him, lots of other people going around like normal Sat. old Women with a flip phone, how are people supposed to keep distance when she just stands in middle of pavement staring into the phone like not a worry in the world, Guy walking about with blanket asking for money I assume and that was all before 9am

Next place in Stockport, loads out shopping, local Bakery shop open as usual when greggs shut.

Sunday. out skirts of stoke again, within in a few mile and two villages I passed 2 women out Horse Riding, then another guy walking with a horse, then a family on a horse and trap, at the place I was going another old guy walking his donkey through the car park
smiley3.gif
it's like another world in some of these places

What can you say about the Scottish Health Officer going 45 mile to Holiday home after being on TV for weeks telling everyone else in Scotland to stay at home. No one has mentioned her Husband! at what point did he not think to say, don't be a total idiot, your on TV telling people stay home and you want us to travel there, he should of been included because if she was my wife I would of told her she's stupid so he's just as bad

Very sad about a Eddie Large, wife and son couldn't even be there like everyone else in same situation right now

Just hope I don't pickup the virus while working all weekend, not having to get close to anyone so should be ok. Are little section of about 11 people are only ones in Global company of 1000's of workers not on reduced hours and 80% or furloughed now purely because of the contract were on so grateful for that and happy to work as normal, can get more jobs done as well with most places quiet

Very crazy times, hope everyone here is keeping well

Everything else in the world has pretty much changed right now, one thing that hasn't is Adverts, still can guarantee to be bombarded by the nightmare which is Advertising
smiley34.gif
As a kid we used to like seeing the toys advertised, but did they just target the TV like channel 5 does now with pretty much every ad is toys through the morning while all the kids TV programmes on which is just what parents want right now

Finally had to push things at work and remind them of the guidelines. I CAN work from home, so why is this not happening?

Management then had a meeting, Through Skype, of course, as they are all working from home.

The upshot is that I will be working from home starting next week. Thank heavens for that.

But, it realy isn't a bad firm to work for. They decided to furlough 3 of the staff as their work has dried up, but will be topping up the 80% to full wages. I thought that was quite decent of them.

Our firm has furloughed about 12 now and topped the furlough up by 5% so 85% in total, they done it based on reliability / knowledge and health, Not bad for sitting on your ass doing nothing. Unfortunately they havnt offered anything extra to the ones that still have to come in pick up the slack and risk getting Ill.
smiley26.gif

That's not right

Thing is , if the remaining staff start getting pissed off with the extra work and decide to self isolate, we are f**ked as they have cut the numbers so fine.

Jez at least throw the decent ones a bone here.trev19762020-04-08 06:09:54

I'm still in
smiley6.gif
most are on the 80% but from the directors message to me saying I have 100% attendance record for not being late,or on sick for 5 years working for them they will do the right thing with me and keep me on, so I get full pay. WTF , I'm only on 19 pence an hour above mininum wage so not much to loose .
Oh and to add, they moved me on to the mail order delivery part cutting fabric to post to customers via royal mail. So hardly necessary work duties . So as above, I risk health and all as the directors sit on their arses so I can take home a few hundred quid more a month and still pay travel.
So from now on next time I'm sick I'm phoning in.

It's sh*t isn't it. I've been at my place for 25 years and always played by the rules, never off ill, never late and always work hard but it gets you nowhere. What I've noticed over the years is that the guys that cause the most problems seem to get the easiest ride, less work to do, take extra holidays they're not entitled to, go home early, take drugs, come in smelling of booze etc etc while good honest workers like myself have to take up the slack and get treated like crap.

I'd love to be furloughed on 80% but there's no chance as he'll keep me working to the bitter end because he can rely on me.

Having said all that, it's nothing to what the NHS staff have to put up with so I probably shouldn't be complaining.

It's an awkward situation all round.

You come into work each day. Full pay, all your usual expenses, and take a lot of risk.

Or

You get furloughed. Stay at home on at least 80% (or 100% on my firm). None of the travel expenses (effectively a pay rise) for doing nothing. And you minimise the risk.

Or

Like me, work from home (from next week). Get full pay. None of the travel expenses (effectively a pay rise). And you minimise the risk.... sort of, as I will still be working full time and on call to come into the office for emergency breakdowns.

Or

Chuck a sicky, or self isolate as a family member is ill, and get SSP.

Or

Still go into work as none of the above are options, even when a family member is self isolating, as we discovered has been going on here for the last 4 weeks. And put everybody at risk.

Or... just be a dick like all the entitled tree huggers who think it's fine to cram 3000 tree huggers into the london parks and put everybody at even greater risk. These people should be fined, and have their benefits or furloughs removed.

Get well Boris..... and toughen up. Lock the t**sers in!

My relatives are medical and the information from them is dire. Peak in June then another in September and so on. It’s almost impossible to be immune to it so you will catch it again with a higher rate of mortality.

All I can see is we are never going back to the old normal again, I guess it’s going to be gloves and masks for everyone if they go outside in the future.

Like read a few days ago of another Chinese conspiracy theory . China starts , gets own population to spread, gets first soon immunity, starts global capital gains, becomes major superpower and dominate. Reading more and more , and more become fearful.
Folk are losing sense of humour also like :

I went to my 82 year old neighbour to ask if they needed to go to shops for food, no point in both going ! She said " yes " , so I gave her my shopping list .

Now this got me a bollocking from my boss. Apparently not a joking matter for times. Anyone for a thread of fun humour to get through ?
