F355 will not work in an ID Cab without spending a shat load on Boards and wiring! and not available for CF mod. Mine was a F355 Challenge 2, and I did think about keeping the boardset to play in the Cab, till I played it for all of 5 minutes

Did you sell those on ebay a couple of months back?
If it was you....dude I wanted to buy one of those! I sent you an email threough ebay but you wanted a bit more than I wanted to pay for one (Think you quoted me 1200 for half a single).....Then you kept on starting/ending/starting the auctions!!

I'll hopefully get a F355 twin one day after I've done up my ID2 cab, I would have rather had one of yours tho as they looked in nice condition.

Anyway, back to ID...
I spent an hour or so today cleaning out the PSU and GDROM drive, I don't think the owner ever done that before
smiley36.gif
, next step is to clean out the Naomi 2 board, replace the battery and fit one of these capacitors as I've read they can leak:

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/377366/?cm_mmc=UK-PPC-0212-_-03_Top_Suppliers_02_2012-_-Panasonic_PSF_432973_Electric_Double_Layer_Capacitors-_-EECS0HD104H

Then clean the I/O boards and whatever power supplies/boards are located underneath the screen.

Does anyone know where to get the fasteners that hold the seat cover on and the fasteners for the seat cushions?

>Bluebird:
Did you sort out your Force feedback mate?

>Alpha:
You mentioned something about reflowing the monitors, do you know what solder points will require reflowing?

Sorry for all the questions.

Cheers.

I get a weird thing on ID3 running from CF on my ID1 cab.
When I pass the finish line the steering vibrates loads for about 4 seconds. Like when you go over the rumble strips. I can't see anything out of place in the game setup.
It plays fine apart from that. Annoying cos I've transferred my ID1 card to it.

Where did your cab come from? One of the sides on mine used to do that. I never did get to the bottom of it as when I swapped the driver boards over between the two sides it stopped on both sides

tried to have a hunt for anyone else having the same issue and came up blank. anyone here have any ideas?

No, that's a pic I took after we unloaded them, but was not me selling them on Greedbay. I went with the Guy to buy 1 half of a twin for myself and he was going to have the other half and we ended up driving home with 2 twins

No I haven't sorted out the force feedback yet... I went hiking on weekend ( I am climbing Kilimanjaro ) in Feb,,,,so I went outside for once!

I also started looking at get CF card reader etc.. so I can swap games quickly...

1. Can you use an ordinary ethernet cable to upgrade the Dimm to 4.02 or do I need to buy a crossover one from somewhere?

It's kinda like going shopping and buying a trolley full instead of just the 1 item you originally went in for.
smiley36.gif

Oh well, I guess you converted yours into Outrun 2 cabs?
I can't believe you couldn't get into F355, when that came out on Dreamcast I pretty much wore out a new DC playing that, such an incredible game and the handling still stands up to a lot of 'new' sims out there. F355 holds a special place in my heart.

Oh well, I hope you can fix the FFB.
I've still got a load of servicing to do myself, next up is refurbing the controls now, all the electronics have been cleaned out and a new cr2032 battery fitted into the Naomi.

Hmm.....I've noticed my seats don't have speakers in them, I'm sure the Japanese version had speakers in the rear and under the seat?.....Is it normal for the UK version not to have active gullwing speakers? Is there any way to retrofit them using the existing amp etc?

Questions questions.....

Cheers!

that was the first question I asked when I got mine... and no the UK ones didn't come with any speakers or mounting plates. You can retro fit them but AFAIK you need a separate amp as well.

Cheers for that.

You know what ny next question will be then mate....
smiley36.gif

Do you know anyone who has done it?
And would the speakers from Scud race/Sega rally 2 etc fit into this seat?

Cheers.

Plenty of people have done it, but maybe not on this forum. On AO they were all doing it! No sub woofer either in ID cabs. It's all compatible with it, just the stuff isn't there (amp boards and speakers)

Looking to take the ID cab apart and start re-building it in the living room.

What bolt/socket do I need to take the control panel off? Its like a star shaped bolt with a small bit in the middle (sorry as best as I can explain
smiley9.gif
)

also what other special tools? looks like the rest is just screws and normal bolts. Anyone kind enough to post some pics and how to tackle this?

thanks all!

Does anyone know what the exact size I need for the ID cab? T40?

Just get one of these, or similar, as all the torx sizes you'll need are in there..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/33PC-Hole-Hollow-Torx-Star-Hex-Security-Tamperproof-Screwdriver-Drill-Bits-/370903154568?pt=UK_Baby_BabyFeedingUtensils_EH&hash=item565b8cff88

Yes, I can confirm UK cabs never had gull box speakers or sub-woofers fitted. The Model 3 (Scud/Rally2/Daytona2) gull box speakers and subs are the right ones to look out for - there was a twin Scud parted out on ebay recently and I think the speakers were available but sold. You can buy replacement speakers for the empty gull boxes- just gotta prize open the units without breaking them..

I've done the gull box and sub additions - the sub is by far the easiest to do as the volume pot is already wired (if you have a coin tower with VTS board) and you can use the existing 2ch amp. You just need a sub, low pass amp and a bit of wiring. The sub brings the biggest benefit as well - the gull box speakers are not as nice as the front speakers so you end up cranking up the volume on the front speakers more anyway. The sub adds substantial butt thumps

initialD is only a stereo game so you won't get proper 4.1 sound anyway.
