Speaking with Mourix user about his restoration, I offered to him some advises for to improve his own work. We have agreed that is better to give these advises openly for all users interested in.

Let´s go with first advise:

I love to restore original like they are, but when there are geometric form, I take some exceptions: Is better a perfect line than a irregular line, same with simple letters in some cases, like lordsvale Neo Geo CPO.

ADVISE 1: Letters

Is better to invert some minutes to find original font in pro to get the best result possible. Webpages like "What font is" and others are good options to find original fonts.

Example:

Thank you for this advice. I did not know about that site!

Sorry to go slightly off topic but are there not at least 2 versions on the playscene variation of cabs too?

Lordsvale made many variations of these control panels. Mine is for this one:

DOk09MV.jpg

But these ones also exist, and maybe more:

OGhgh0G.jpg

Same goes for the Neo Geo. Mine is for the one with the white buttons. There also exists one with colored buttons and speakers in the control panel.

Do we know the
difference in control panels for the MVS yet?

So I see the one with white circles and arrows, and one with a cream/gold type colour.

Mine has the golden colour.

When trying to find out what the differences were, I usually found, but not always...

The one with straight white buttons was golden

The ones with 4 colour buttons were white

EG:

lordsvale_ukvac2.jpg

and

48814261152_493e08c53c.jpg

But then when looking for these images, I found a mixture.

Mine is the golden colour, doesn't look discoloured, but could be wrong. were they once white.

I like the golden colour, has a class to it.

The white one you posted actually uses muddymusic's reproduction,
which itself is an edit of cools' vector. These are partly based on
guesswork, as are mine. The original definitely was some shade of white
at the Neo Geo symbols, but these new files will be off.

Would you like to help me with some measurements and scans so I could make a proper bezel, sideart and CPO for everyone?

I always join in when I can.
I have been photoshopping daily for over 25 years. So can add some benefit.

But to not give false hope, Im snowed under with lots of things.

I'll try, but I can't promise, and gutted I can't put more time into things like this, as this is what I enjoy the most!

Maybe if I can get some pictures of mine, that will be a start, I have evaluated the panel, and Im convinced its all original.

Not a problem, it's a hobby after all. I just got too much time on my hands right now

Could you take a whole bunch of photos of the bezel, sideart and CPO? With both close ups and overviews? If you send that huge zip file I can extrapolate based on my own cab dimensions.

ADVISE 2: Perfect stroke effect for letters!

There are to way to draw the stroke effect in Photoshop:

1) With "blending options" and then go to strokes. This is not perfect because if you work with high resolutions and Stroke effect is so width you will see aristas all around curve shape. With of the stroke effect will not be the same in all shape. BEWARE!

2) If you have vectors taken from "Create work path" option, you only need to select pincel´s width and apply the stroke effect in "path layer"panel. Perfect results with perfect rounded shapes!

ADVISE 3: Perfect Star of Directions and Perfect sharpened stroke effect.

The only way to get a beautiful and perfect star of directions is to take all measures of all arrows and to promediate measures, even to premediate position of arrow to centre to get the best performace and draw a "vector figure"! :)

Automatic sharpened stroke effect is not possible in "Photoshop" but we can complete sharped effect drawings all corner by hand from original rounded stroke effect.

Where are you getting the info for some shade of white tho?

Why on some is it beige/golden in colour?

I feel that it is meant to be this colour - based on images and my own cpo

@mikonos: Thank you for the tips! I tried to copy the imperfect nature of the original, while you make a perfect new one!

@sbdesign: To be so honest, all the existing reproductions were white and my original seemed faded. I am starting to doubt that now though.

Over here I received my CPO print, but massively messed up the metal when drilling new holes. I will update once I figure this out...

Don´t mention it!

Well, I have a rules for my work: "If there is not alternative possible, I will vectorize it!" Why this is in that way? Because I respect so much the original artist´s handmade or I respect original printing formule.

In this case, you had copied imperfect nature of original; OK! but, why this:

Longsvale%20CPO.%20Advise4.jpg

I'm going to answer this for you, but don't be upset with me: It is because you wanted to save time. I respect it because you are not an artworker and this is the reason because I´m showing you some tips.

If I respect imperfect nature of original, I will respect it to the end.

Best regards

Mikonos

The reason was the original artwork was not put on straight, and I tried to approximate them in a straigt way. The difference is the tolerance of my guesses.

Of course! What did you expect?

Straight Lines are not perfect straight lines and curves are not perfect curves.

In text fonts there are lines that must be straight, in arrows occur same, in stroke effects same. If we speak about curves...

Ok! You choose to respect the imperfect nature of the original, but red and black banding. Ok with this, of course! You did a mix!

mourix, don´t get me wrong, you did a good restoration! I asked you for your original scan files and I´m paying your kindness with my inconspicuous fan knowledge.

Looks great!! Seems like I got quite a few lessons, thank you :)

Today I will apply my green Neo Geo print on my control panel, so stay posted for that one. The restoration has been continuing in the background.
