Looks ace! Much more homely and snug. Would love a roller door for my garage - just gives that bit more space as you don't have to worry about the door bashing anything inside when it angles up and over. Also the height is an issue when it's 'up' for me with the Jap pop cards!

Very handy to have a standard door too - didn't realise you didn't already have one - loving that you can glimpse the OR2SP DLX through the door window too!

I appreciate the modern possibilities a lot and also thought about but came to the conclusion that too much could work to distractive.

The first thing is the beauty of our machines...the rest is only to improve the impression.

Something like the LED-floor is awesome, but who would note the machines anymore with such a floor

Fantastic work so far mate; I hadn't noticed the mood lighting update; that looks very nice indeed

I've often thought about how I might have my setup when I get around to it and one idea I came up with for that 'authentic' holiday arcade experience revolves around the fact that in many of our favourite seaside resorts, the arcades are gone but the scenery isn't...what I mean is whilst I was hammering 10p's into Super Sprint with my Dad, out of the corner of my eye I could see the promenade or the pier or the seafront at Blackpool and the people walking past. My idea is to get a HD camera and mount it in a suitable place on the seafront at some of these resorts and well, just film hours of footage of seaside life passing by; families doing what families did whilst we were all indoors getting sun deprivation; basically recreate life just outside the entrance to the arcade.

I could project the footage onto one wall, floor to ceiling, have the lighting up a relative level and switch all the machines on; maybe even layer in an almost imperceptible sound track of the seafront noises and arcade ambience.

Just one idea I've been toying with; not particularly well developed (you'd have to figure out a way of randomising the footage fade in/out and have different times of day that actually played depending upon what time of day/night it actually was..) but anyway - game on!

Carried on with the ceiling work now the doors are fitted.
Glad I thought to fit a socket here, as any cabs in the middle of the room won't need wires trailing across the floor.

Fully insulated now.

Of all the work involved in this putting up the plasterboard on the ceiling is easily the most annoying fecking thing ever.

But after lots of blood, sweat and tears it's all done.

Last run of the lighting fixed up as well which did make it to the corner I was glad to find.

I decided I'd get a few bits of moulding and angles to pretty up the edges of the room which are stacked up in the corner here.

Need to get the last little bit of the floor down and it's really gonna take shape.

No plastering so that won't be an issue. If I'd had the place empty I probably would have done, but when I did the floor it was the only time it was anywhere near empty enough to do it. By the time all the cabs are lined up, posters and stuff are on the wall and the place is only lit by cabs I figured I won't see much of the wall anyway!

I have changed my mind on the final finish a little bit though and will be fitting some beading to cover edges and corners, and will also be fitting some skirting so there won't be any gaps or joints visible.

Ah cool - I plastered and painted which was the messiest two jobs I've ever done! Got more on me and the floor than I did on the walls

I've never tackled plastering, I don't think it would end well at all

I said earlier in the thread this is right on the limit of my DIY ability. A few years back I wouldn't have had a clue what I was doing, it's only really because I've had Alex/chuckie-egg on the end of the phone for advice I've got this far!

It's a great feeling to do this sort of job yourself, it gives you a sense of pride you don't get if you pay someone else to do it..

..and it saves you some cash you can spend on filling the space!!

Btw where did you get your plasterboard?

Everything is from Wickes, it's only 2 miles away. I got the celotex and full plasterboard sheets delivered by them.

What he said. Would highly recommend doing something with the plasterboard. When I was down in Devon I left the plasterboard bare. It was OK of course but it did end up looking a bit minging after 5 years as it had yellowed with age and the chances of you feeling like painting it then will be even less than they are now. Even though I appreciate that you probably really don't feel like it now!

Doesn't need to be much, just seal it with a watered down PVA mix, or if you prefer, buy a ready mixed variant, a very thin skimming plaster over all the plasterboard screws if that is what has been used (great if it was stuck on) then off you go with a cheap 10L tub of trade white or magnolia. Job done
