What helped is that the concrete screed on the floor was quite new and nice and level so there was no need to do any extra prep work before laying the flooring.

That is definitely a nice starting point, my garage is never gonna be suitable for a games room as it is, as we have a little subsidence and the floor is well out of whack, and continues to move. Might wait until it falls down and build another, with different foundations.

No progress for a month other than Martin dropping some of my cabs back, but I've had a chance to sell some stuff and get the cash together for the electrics to be done.

I've also had a decent quote and some good ideas for replacing the 2 garage doors to make it more habitable so that's going to be booked in for the new year once I've saved up as it's not cheap, but will be very much worth it long term.

So yesterday Tony got a lot of the wiring work done which is great as it felt a bit weird having rushed through the rest of the work only to stop completely.

Lots and lots of kit arrived, total spend on supplies for this was around £250 thus far. A good sized consumer unit was picked to allow for lots of breakers and a bit of future proofing.

The plan is for 11 Double sockets in the main room, in to 4 separate 30A rings so basically a zone for each of the three walls and drop from the centre of the ceiling.

This means I can have options to turn banks of cabs on or off from the door, and not trip out the whole place when something goes bang.

Another ring for the Workshop with 3 twin sockets, then another for the loft space. 3 light switches to control lights in the loft, and two sets of fluro tubes in the main room.

I'll also be having a feed for ambient lighting all from 1 switch for LED's and Neon's etc, and finally a feed to allow for an electric garage door and alarm.

The biggest expense will be replacing the wiring from the house to the garage, as it's nowhere near good enough to cope with the draw I'll be putting on it, so early next year a big roll of thick armour cable will be being dug in.

Sockets are surface mounted in conduit dropped 50mm from the ceiling.

All socket & lighting wiring is in place

It's really not easy with a room half full of cabs so fair play to Tony for getting around

The consumer unit is looking a lot more full by the end of the day.

Socket fronts and conduit will be done Monday as the rest of my cabs are coming on Tuesday.

one piece of advice I would give is if you are laying armoured cable to the house, also put it in a plastic pipe,or underground trunking, that way if you want to add more cables in the future it makes access a lot easier,I have known people to use old drainpipes or waste pipes as well, just make sure you have mesh or access caps on the end though,as rats may enter if you leave it open ended

Main room wiring is all done, and there's now ample sockets on every wall and power is fully connected

Now I can start sorting the ceiling out, going to be filling the cavity with space blanket as I can easily fit this from underneath and each segment is the exact length of the garage which is handy.

First battens go up.

Hoping to get the first half of the ceiling work done this week. Should start to warm it up considerably when that's done.

What was nice is they charged me the price of a single piece for the entire rolls. I think the guy on the till had just been brought in and didn't notice the 'CHARGE AS 3 ITEMS' sticker on the side

Ceiling battens going up.
muddygar2-66.jpg

First section of insulation fitted. Goes up REALLY easily as the pieces are the exact width of the cavity and just happen to also be the exact length of the room!
muddygar2-67.jpg

And some more
muddygar2-68.jpg

So the first complete section of ceiling board can go up

It's no fun putting it up on your own, that's for sure!

Now it's starting to actually feel like a room. I wanted to reward myself for the progress so far and actually remember why I'm doing this so got some cabs properly in place and fired them up. It was really nice to actually play a few credits, it's been a long time since I've played on these cabs.

Great progress - I missed the posts about the electrics being done so it's come a long way since I last checked in! It's ace when you're working on a project for what seems like ages and you finally get to the point where you can fire up some cabs - makes it all worth it!

Should be getting warmer in there now too - just in time for this cold weather! Brrrrrrrr!!!
