Excellent progress Olly.
Garage conversions are very tough hard work...took me ages to do mine, as only did it bit by bit.
-I really should post pics, however it's not fully finished, but will be very soon! :)

I used fibre-glass for insulation(4 for 1 offer) as Celotex was a huge amount of £££ and I had triangle sections to cut out as my garage is a wooden affair. Plasterboarding is ok once you get into it to.
Cordless drills are awesome, so I had 2 on the go. ..1 with a drill and another with a hex bit, this saved loads of time.

Looking forward to more pics Olly and the end result.
You certainly like your drivers! :)

Cheers,
DaveO.

The 2 drills thing really does make a difference. As does the multi-purpose drill bit I got, it was pretty expensive but boy does it save time and effort! I have a hammer-drill with the decent bit in so I can go straight through timber in to concrete, hammer a plug through and then swap to my drill-driver and tighten the screw up.
Takes me probably less than a quarter of the time it did when I was marking holes and swapping bits over, and when it's this much battening that makes a massive difference.

Here's the update for today. Finished second piece on the right wall which puts me halfway along.

Then it was on to the trickiest section. I want to leave the window there as it gives a little bit of natural light in from the workshop. I'll put something better than some broken glass in there long term!

No vapour barrier or insulation here as it's an internal wall, so just tricky plasterboard cutting to do (tricky for me anyway

I'm pretty pleased with that.

As the place is already half full with cabs I've got to do this in 2 sections. So now it's a good tidy up and clean the floor down ready to lay the first half of the floor

it's ok, it had already been discussed. As it happens Tony came today to work out the plan for the electrics so that's in hand now

Now it really starts to get interesting

High performance underlay with vapour barrier goes down, all the edges sealed up.
Henry is very happy about it.

And the first section of floor goes down. I've done a few floors like this now and it's always surprising just how quickly you can lay it, especially if it's a square room.

First section finished. Time to move some cabs over, now I'm really starting to get a sense of the size of this place. The row here is a Dino King, side on cockpit, Space Harrier, Egret 2 and Donkey Kong and still a big gap left

Second section goes down.

And that's the first half of the floor done. Not bad for a mornings work.

Yeah well Olly doesn't have a proper job so he is free to do this stuff all day.

If only that were true Rog. I like to get 2-3 hours a day spent on it if I can, which is easy enough to find either in the morning or evening as I can pretty much work anytime as long as stuff gets done by deadlines and working from home knocks out any commuting time etc.

I know if I don't do it right away it will be nigh on impossible once it's full of cabs so there's extra incentive to crack on with at least this part of it. Once the walls and floor are finished the pace is going to slow drastically!

There's clearly no room for that Planet Harriers cab. I'm afraid you are going to have to sell it back to me

not sure if Tony mentioned it to you when he came over, but homebase in st austell is having a closing down sale,I have not been in there myself, but there may be cheap bits to be had for your electrics, although knowing homebase original prices, even if the stuff is half price it probably is about what screwfix/wickes charge anyhow

I didn't know anyway Steve!

You're probably right about the prices though! I'm looking at probably getting most of the stuff from cpc, and a few bits locally like trunking, strip light etc.

Whooooaaa! Great work, coming along really well- looking much more like a room than a garage now!

You won't need to worry about wall coverings though- it's gonna be wall to wall cabs and any glimpses of wall can be covered with marquees and posters.. and that cracking neon sign!
