went to nottingham games market this morning. The release of the AES.+ seems to have driven the cost of og 90s aes games up. Saw lots of jap aes consoles varying from 400 unboxed to 600 boxed. AES snk vs capcom chaos was 1.7k.View attachment 57008
Boxed priced is about £500-550 so this aint too bad considering it’s a game market. Which are usually a p*ss take to cover the cost of the plot.

4 AES listed recently on eBay so most likely it’ll start to tank the price than lift it

I could easily be off the mark here, and I know it's got 'SNK' on the videos and on the boxes, but has there been any actual announcement of this directly from SNK? There's nothing on their site or recent feeds.

Would be pretty ridiculous if this Plaion company did all this as a 'look at this, now endorse it' exercise, I do accept.

I might be in the minority here, but I think after Metal Slug 3 it all went downhill as the original team were no longer working on it.
I think the first one was near-perfectly formed.
It became more and more 'out there' as they went on. .

I hope, but unlikely the games come with reversible covers as I prefer the look of the Japanese covers a bit moreView attachment 57014View attachment 57012View attachment 57013
Yes definitely. On the whole Japanese artwork was a lot better.

I'm no Neo Geo expert but did those snap lock cases only come out a few years after the consoles release? I mainly remember the normal cases. For me, Magician Lord just doesn't look right in a snap lock box, that's not how I remember it, it should look like the pic below surely?

They have a copyright SNK in the footer on the Plaion site. I must admit I did check for that when it was first announced!

Now that I check, I can’t find any announcements from the official channels. Perhaps it’s not being released in Japan, so they’re not mentioning it? Perhaps it’s a licence only thing and it’s all under Plaion??

Just a bit odd. Maybe SNK just said ‘you get on with it and sort it all out’ 🤪

I was pondering the guts of it earlier and from what I’ve now read it does look like it’s effectively MiSTer on an ASIC instead of an FPGA. Not that it could ever likely be anything else as they don’t make the CPU etc now.

i think you may have a heart attack if you went to Forgotten Worlds in Scotland. I went 2 weeks ago. AES jap in box, 750.
and Jap box art has always been the best to display, regardless of console. I almost bought a jap super famicom today, mainly just to buy the jap games i had myself back in 94.

I just think if they're going to as much effort as it looks like they are and they say that they are then they may as well get the game boxes and the actual console box correct, that's the easy bit surely?
Sorry to tease, I just think it's asking a bit much when it's already a miracle announcement. They're producing a dedicated chip console, accessories and cross-compatible carts in matching repro snap lock cases at £69 each. The company's proven solid with previous releases, they've worked with the right people in the community and they actually stick with their products instead of doing one limited FOMO release then running away. This time next year you might be able to pop to Argos and buy a Neo Geo.

The only catch is it all seems too good to be true. They've got all the details spot on imo. Can't think of another retro console release that's ticked a fraction of these fantasy boxes.

Never thought that date specific case variation would be on anyone's list.

makes no odds if SNK have anything to do with it anyway as SNK isn't SNK if it's not even a Japanese Company anymore it's just another branded item, strange the name of the company that owns the name rights is MiSK foundation MiSK in english Musk

Like ‘Atari’, it is tenuous, but id imagine a few would want it ‘official’. I was only suspicious because Plaion do an Amiga 1200 and other systems that have no official logo on them.
But it’s probably not the case here, just seemed a bit odd.

With headquarters in Japan for SNK why use Plaion Austrian company to make it, why not use SNK place itself, suppose it depends what they actually do there these days. You would expect SNK side to be shouting about it at least though

I get what some are saying with having looked at prices of originals it's a nice much cheaper option and as bodypop says one that you never got around to buying, it makes it an attractive purchase
