From all the posts I've read, everyone thought the night was awesome. Rightfully so.
We all really need to get behind these ventures guys. If all the 80 odd attendees threw a tenner in a bucket (or Andy & James's hand) on the way in/out, then £800 would smooth the path for this amazing place long into the future. It's the price of a curry. Just my thoughts.

Can a donations link be added to their website? I fully intended to chip in but was so in awe that it slipped my mind on the night. I'd love to help out!

Andy and James - Thanks for an amazing night !!

Was great to meet some more faces from the forum. I don't think I've grinned as much as a did while playing Outrun Delux in an arcade for a very long time.

I agree with Pacman and Chiz, was rightly expecting to see a pot to put donations into - more than happy to contribute to help with the funding of these events. Can something be set up on the RGP page?

Yeah, this.

I know James was keen not to have to rely on handouts, but if it's voluntary, why not raise a few quid to put towards the expenses of the next event?

There must be at least a few hundred quids worth of repairs following the heavy usage on Saturday?

Wow what an awesome weekend of arcade goodness...

It was a pretty long trip from Cambridge to the Northern moors but well worth the journey!
I'd like to say a big thank you to RGP, u72 and all the organizers and those involved on behalf of my +1 and myself. Being a new member to the community I thought this was very generous to let us come to the opening party

Suffice to say I had a most excellent time playing a superb collection of games, I really enjoyed the 80's music and atmosphere and now sorely want more cabinets of my own.
Apologies I didn't really talk to many people, I got so stuck into the games and tbh was a bit shy (awww), but hello to those I did, and thanks to p man for the CD, cheers

So many good games, of course there were a few I didn't manage to play because they weren't working at the time or I missed them but here's my most memorable:

Amidar - was looking forward to this as I quite like the game (I had this or some derivative on the BBC), didn't look like it got a lot of love as I got 1st place on the high scores which is unheard of lol. Underrated game.
Thunderblade sit down - wow what a workout it is to play this game with the whole apparatus lurching around as the joystick is moved, awesome! (pity I forgot to use the speed control on the side of the seat though, bleh...)
Crazy Kong - pretty sure I played this one at replay expo last year but I did take my time to actually look more closely at the cabinets and this one is really great, the artwork is almost gruesome on the bezel - nice.
Sinistar - been a LONG time since I saw an original one of these, played really nicely, I love that joystick.
Spy Hunter - so awesome to see one of these in the flesh once again, as hard as nails got completely owned by this one heheh.

Anyway, thanks again and all the best. Good luck for the future!

Hi guys.

I know I mentioned this in an earlier post but just to reiterate the feeling above.

The night was awesome and I had deliberately taken a crisp twenty to deposit in the expected bucket then just got carried away in the wonder of the night.

I appreciate not wanting to ask people for donations outright, but when we are all willing to contribute then please let us.

I'm clearly no expert but I'm guessing places like this, especially up North, are few and far between, so please let us help. I shudder to think what the leccy bill alone must have totted up to.

If you do set something up either on here, on RGP, or anywhere else and my money is yours.

Thanks again.

Neil

Gents

When I first set out doing the parties, as anyone who knows the nearly 4 years evolution, I was doing them in my home, I felt bad about getting people to give money to me at the house, a few have given a few quid over time and although not expected, nor asked for, it is graciously received.

I consider you all my friends and friends don't generally take from friends. There are plenty of times when I stick a post in the tech section and someone will help out and i'm keen to share my own knowledge I gain from doing repairs - it serves two purposes - it helps others and it gives a place where knowledge can be centralised.

That said, we fully intend to make ticketed events for those not in the community who are followers on social media etc. Naturally if anyone wants to come to that we can do the club rope-line secret handshake thing.

I won't go into specific figures but the cost of the unit, business rates and power are pretty reasonable for the area. We'd naturally prefer we not pay business rates as you get sweet f.a for your money, in my eyes, the council are the mafia wanting their "tribute" every month, its legalised racket and we know it, rant over.

The electric costs are not stupidly high but a cost nonetheless but nowhere near as high as you'd think thankfully.

Failures from Saturday? Some heat related issues for sure. Mad Planets has lost its sound, Donkey Kong's monitor needs re-capping, After Burner has the same voltage issues the upright cab had a bit back and the upright's monitor needs a service. Battlezone we had working on Friday then it popped its monitor fuse, which looked aged anyway, we replaced it and it worked great then wasn't working Saturday night. The PCB set is fine as its been in my cabaret for ages. Some monitors need a tweak and re-cap - which means dealing with my arch nemesis - the Sanyo EZ20!

The single biggest cost at one of these is the food/drink. Cost of food/drink is getting stupidly high in this country even with x for y offers and two venues had to be catered this time.

I know some detractors will be reading this in the background saying "well don't run two venues then blah blah blah, open the unit earlier yada yada". Having somewhere to go before the event is a nice thing to do and understandably on this one I wanted to contain the wow factor a little for everyone.

At the next one, if you wish to make a donation i'll make a way for that to be done, maybe setup a paypal link in the RSVP messages.

I think a bucket at the venue could be open to problems and with the police coming in after the concern from a neighbour then it could be interpreted as selling alcohol and that'd end the party and future parties real quick.

I'm changing event management software and the name badges will be back - you will be able to print your own next time.

Really glad you all had fun and all the feedback has been so great. We're just coming alive again from it now today.

Maybe i'll sort a couple of minor monitor issues out in a bit tonight.

Pretty much recovered from the weekend now, was so tired all Sunday long... it went so quick, as always. I'm glad I was well enough over the weekend.

Many many thanks to everyone involved with the arcade and the event, by far the best line up of arcades I have seen in my life, with an atmosphere I can only imagine in my dreams, to be shared with like minded gamers, doesn't get much better than that.

I didn't think it was that hot really, I'm used to such temperatures! The fact that most machines survived such a night is great to hear, and I hope will host many more great events and parties for us all in the near future.

Open donations should be done, because we just want to support this! Paying nothing towards something which beats any other sort of night out shouldn't exist.

This might sound daft, and truth be told I haven't thought it through, but have you considered structuring yourself as a registered charity - in the same way as a museum?

Then claim the tax back on all donations received!

Its a mark of something truly great that so many are keen to voluntarily donate to what is obviously such a worthy cause when nothing is expected or asked for. Regular donations can also be made by standing order / direct debit. Like with Tesco, every little helps.

The costs alone just for the Guest appearance of "BLINKY" was astronomical TBH..

James knows my feelings on this already.

You cannot get a Nights entertainment like this ANYWHERE FOR FREE....

GAME ON...
